I've been about 34 years away from the midwest and recently moved back. While everything here delights me, I was reminded last night of truly disgusting slugs! It's been raining and I went out on my porch last night to enjoy it and the steps were covered with horrible, slimy slugs! Big, long creepy ones! And they were in the dry cat food that I feed the neighborhood strays, I about barfed. Is there any way to get rid of them?!

i'd never heard of them eating dry food before..wet,yes.. the only way i've gotten rid of them is to get rid of anything damp in the yard, fallen trees, what have you.which is kinder than my dad and the salt shaker. he'd coat those poor things.

if they come around at a certain time, you could get one of those timed food dishes-slugs won't be able to get in it.. i had a different problem feeding strays around here- raccoons!those pigs were stealing food, and chasing off the cats,oh was i mad.i ended up waiting til they meowed at the door to come feed them.

Most of my kitties are too afraid to call for their food, very shy and skittish. I do have one that waits at the foot of the steps and one that sits on the side but that's as close as they'll come and that's progress. They usually show up 10pm-midnight, usually past my bedtime!

Oh boy, get rid of wet stuff-it rains a lot here, I guess! Last year was a drought but this year it rains at least 2-3 times a week so far. I love it but apparently the slugs do, too! I just felt so sorry for the kitties, they have no homes and now horrible things are getting all over their food!

Yes there is. Pour salt all over the areas they are being found or the ways you know they are coming in. That will get rid of them. I used to live next door to the church I was attending at the time, and it had a daycare. The daycare would constantly get slugs. The salt thing worked every time.

Doesn't that cause them agony? I don't want them to suffer just because they creep me out. Funny, I don't mind snakes or spiders or anything else but roaches and slugs really disgust me.

I don't think so. I think it just keeps them from crossing the line of salt. Usually they would just get the slugs up, and then pour salt along where they would be coming in. And the slugs wouldn't cross the lines. Kind of like how ants won't cross a line of cinammon.
