I found this website article I enjoyed a lot. It goes over the reasons that people spend their money. It was an eyeopener for me now I just need to figure out what to do with the new information. I have Lack of patience, and a few pieces of the others here and there. Why do you spend money? http://www.savingadvice.com/blog/2008/05/15/102127_reasons-why-you-spend-money.html

Lol, that's pretty funny because I don't have any of those problems. I wonder if there's a reason why people don't spend money, because that's more like me. I have a hard time with not spending money because I don't want to spend it as I am anxious about the future. My finances have always been unstable, so I'm always cautious. I rarely go out and buy things I don't really need.

I am a usualy frugal person but every once in a while I go out and blow some money on something that we really didnt need and we spend the next little while digging out of the debts I gave us or rebuilding our savings.

That's an interesting article HappyTHoughts. Thanks for sharing it. I imagine most of us are motivated by a variety of different reasons. After a quick read through, I'd say that my motivators are Laziness (sometimes I just cannot be bothered to take the time to search out the cheapest option!) and Things Will Get Better (I've no idea how, but I can hope!). Generally, I'm pretty good, but occassionally I splash out on eating out. That's like a reward for good behaviour the rest of the time!

I too tend to reward my self or my kids with a quick meal out. I can cook and I think I am pretty good at it, but sometimes it is a treat to sit acrost the table from the family and not have to put the food there.

Exactly Pirate. But once you realise the reason that you behave the way that you do, I think you are half way to fixing it.

I like to think that I don't waste my money. Some of the reasons that people spend on those sites seem to make a bit of sense but people that spend money like that obviously aren't thinking when they do it.

I usually spend in spurts - I will go a very long time without shopping or anything, and then i will go out and spend a couple of hundred dollars on clothes or something. I think it is okay because I usually need clothes.

I do that too. I do so well for a while then we go on a spree that feels good until we realise what we have dont then we save for a while and do it again. The circle of our financial life.

I spend money because having material things makes me feel better about myself. Sad, but true. For example, I feel that the way my son looks is a reflection of what kind of parent I am, so I go out of my way to make sure he dresses in up to date styles. I know its important for him to go to school or hang out with his friends and feel confident about how he looks. Recently, I've been on a "home improvement" kick, because once again, the way my home looks is a direct reflection of how I am doing in life. It shouldn't be important, but lets face it, it is. Otherwise we all would live with only the bare necessities.

We try to dress clean and maintained but I try to avoid the current styles and stick to more of a classic style so that we dont need to buy so often. I cant stand to pay $100 for a pair of jeans just because they are the in thing. I have always been to cheap for that.

That's a very interesting article. Personally, I think I've gone through difference phases in my life. I've been guilty of lack of patience, keeping up with the joneses and laziness (not wanting to do the research). Now I research things very well. Now, I hate to spend a penny more than necessary.

I think at one point or another I have been through each step too. I guess I should print the article and read it every once in a while so I can deal with what ever stage I am in.

I think we all learn to look at money in different ways. Some look at it as something to do and some use it as a tool to get by.

Actually, I have never really thought about it, but I do know that I am pretty good at it. I will have to check out that site, cause I sure would like to know.
