would you die for your beliefs?

Sometimes what we believe fills us with fear-about certain people or practices and so on- and colors the way we perceive things. Beliefs can be fatal- so think hard- if your life depended on letting go of some of your beliefs, could you do it? Would you be able to? I'm writing a novel- still in the outlining and note making stage-and this is the theme. Lot of good original thinkers out there- so I'm asking-can you separate your beliefs from your perceptions-ever?

Bertrand Russell the British philosopher may have said it best when he said "I would not die for my beliefs, I might be wrong."

Wow this is a very complicated and interesting question. First of all, for me, my beliefs are not a set of structured rules or dogma, but rather a compilation of spiritual teachings that I have found good for my life. So my beliefs are alive, constantly in change and evolution, then actually it is not a bad thing to "change" or let go off some of them if I find something that contradicts them (like perception). Usually when some of thoose changes occurs on my beliefs, it is not a real change but an update, when I find a deeper version of the same idea. Briefly, I would say that I wouldn't die for my beliefs, I prefer to live for them (because first of all I believe in life).

not all beliefs are religious, some are cultural- some are superstitions...but what circumstances do you envision that would cause you to die to defend your religion?
