We have a cat that stays gone for long periods of time. Every time I think he is dead, he shows up. This time, I think, he may be dead because we haven't seen him for quite a while. I know there is nothing we can do. I know cats are independent. If only they knew how much we truly care, maybe they wouldn's so prone to be so independent.

I know someone that had one that did this. I suggested that she put a collar on him and a note on it with his name and her phone number. Stating that he stays gone for periods of time and that you worry and if anyone sees him would they call. She got a call saying he came to another home and stayed there for the time he was gone from her home. So he had basically had chosen two homes for himself. Also if this is happening at certain times he may have a girlfriend in season and he is visiting her to mate. He will stay with her for several days during this time. You can stop his wondering by making him an inside baby, but he would likely not be happy since he has been outside for sometime. But you will not worry for him.

A collar might not be a good idea on a cat. They can get caught on something by the collar. When I was a kid, I lost a cat that way. We found it after it was too late caught up by it's collar. I've never put a collar on a cat since then.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. I have heard about this . I have never had this happen to me as a result of a collar but I have used the ones that are elastic that will stretch. This way if they get into a bind they can get out of it. It's the only ones I've ever recommended since hearing of the accident like yours.

Is your cat fixed? Tom cats have a habit of roaming. My parent's always said a tom cat wouldn't stay put. I hope he comes home soon. Not knowing drives you crazy.

I know it's three weeks, but I know how you feel, my cat Jr. is missing. this is the first time he has done this. he's always home around midnite. and the bad thing about him is that he doesn't know how to meow.

MY friend had a cat that he actually posted signs up. He fiund that it had moved 1/2 mile to another house. I had a yellow cat tha moved then came back the left. On the other hand I have a small cat that hangs out with four kittens.

I really hope your cat is okay. If he does come home I recommend having him become an indoor cat. Take him outside on a leash only. He will be much safer and you won't have to worry. I really think that if you want to keep a cat as a pet you need to keep them inside. My cat actually goes for walks on a leash with me and my dog. I'll admit it looks weird but he's happy and safe. He also really likes to be in the backyard on a leash when I'm outside with him. I hope he comes home to you :)
