Tell me about Hello Kitty

I have to write an article on this and would like to know just why people like the little kitty. I'm not very familiar with her, having just seen all kinds of merchandise and was surprised to find that Fender, my favorite guitar brand, makes a Hello Kitty guitar!
Why do you like her? Do your kids go nuts over her? What's the appeal?! It's just a little cartoon image, after all. Give me a human perspective on this global phenomenon, please.

Hello Kitty has a little bow many are pink, but there are red bows. Its a kitty face. She is available in many stores and some little girls love her. There is a new completely black and a gold kitty including the bow. Sorry I'm not a Hello Kitty fan. I like several of the other characters at the Sanrio Store.

In my research I've found that in Japan, you don't have to give up your childhood hobbies, you aren't ridiculed for loving something like Hello Kitty as an adult. There is even a Hello Kitty Wedding chapel with Hello Kitty wedding dresses for rent!!!
I'm not a fan, either. Never understood my son's Pokemon obsession when he was younger, either.
