Was it just a good topic I choose or was it because it was in Daily Digest?

Wow I had so many responses from a discussion I started about did children who run riot in restaurants annoy people and it made it into the digest. My question is do you think this made the difference to the amount of responses or do you think it was just a poular topic that I received so many replies? Please share your thoughts on this one please. Have any of your discussions made it into the digest and did this make a difference on the amount of responses. It does seem to have doubled mine. Ellie :D

Firstly Ellie we have to consider the calibre of the poster. You are known as someone that posts high quality topical posts that people enjoy reading and responding to. So that's the first point. Known quantity. Secondly, the subject matter is one that most of us, with or without children of our own can identify with. So that's content. Finally, the fact that it is in the Digest means that every myLot member will receive it and some will find an appeal and respond. So that's coverage. To recap:
1. Known quantity
2. Content
3. Coverage
Sounds like a pretty good recipe for success to me. Congratulations.

I do think that getting into the digest makes a difference in the number of responses you get. It is seen by more people and therefore gives more people the opportunity to respond.

Well, I'm not sure how anyone's discussions get to the Digest (though a few of mine have)....but the discussion you mentioned would have got quite a lot of responses anyways....because it's something most people can relate to....and the fact that it was in the Daily Digest helped more people to view it and respond to it.
In short, I think both (good topic and being in the Daily Digest) helped in getting responses.
Most of my discussions (I don't start many) were included in the Daily digest....and I've got more than 50 responses in each....but that isn't as many as what I got for two of my other discussions which were posted before the Daily digest started. So, I can't be sure if the responses were due to being in the Daily digest and I hadn't even given it any thought.

So maybe then the daily digest gets you more coverage but the fact that the two you had before this with so many makes me feel it was a popular topic and that it was shown in the Hot Topics and Top Discussions sections to prompt this if not from friends list eh! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this. Ellie :D

Yes I noticed it was in there!! In fact I think that day nearly all of my friends were up there because I had none to answer in it. Yes I have been in there once or twice, I definately think that what you posted, was something loads could identify with, you received so many replies because it was well written and good!!
But I guess that the good thing with the digest is it goes to everyones email and if the discussion interest that you posted it in is on most peoples interest lists then they will see your discussion. And if like me most people go through the digest then they will see it and respond.
I think I may have been a bit rambley here, please forgive it is nearly midnight and I am ready for bed!!

Thanks Gemini_rose yes it already had many responses before going into the digest so was a popular topic and then the fact it was in there gave it the extra coverage for even more replies. You weren't rambling bless LOL I understood. Hope you had a good nights sleep. Ellie :D

Hai Ellie,Your selection of subject was good.So you got many responses.Because you got many responses this discussion entered in MYlot digest.I think again many people responded to it from the digest. That is, the "good topic" and "Mylot digest " helped your discussion to get more responses

Hi Naseefu Thanks for saying the subject was good so I got many responses so yes therefore it was then entered into the digest and got more coverage so therefore more responses so a bit of both really. I was so excited though to see it in the digest and to see so many responses. Took me forever to reply to everyone though, but I have done. Ellie :D

I think if you have a popular or topical subject you will get good responses.
I posted about my 18 year old daughter having a boyfriend 10 years older and got an amazing and very helpful respose without it being published in the Digest.
Content is king, as they keep saying!

Hi Thanks for sharing this, I remember that discussion actually and could relate as I have daughters similar ages so aswell as content I think it could also be whether people can relate and feel they can answer the discussion. I do also think thought that the digest gave more coverage for mine. Ellie :D

Ellie..i still haven't figured that thing out?
Some of my topics go way past the numbers of the ones in the digest, but i still haven't seen my name..wonder why? Mine went to over 35 and so and they had some with only 17 messages?
So unless i'm not seeing what everyone sees in there digests, then i'll just not care about it.
I always comment on yours cause you mentioned things that make me want to post to!

Hi Rosekitty, I still cannot believe that I am up this time of night! It is 2.02.am here in the UK and I really should be getting my beauty sleep, well maybe a bit to late for that LOL, but sleep anyways. I was just so excited to see my discussion in the digest and this particular one has received more response than any other so I just wondered really, was it a good topic of was it because of the digest it got more coverage and became one. Who knows I am having fun answering them all anyhow. Ellie :D

I am not even sure if any of my discussions I have already started been put into the daily digest at all. I know at least one of them received at least ten responses. I think starting many new discussions helps to get off to the best start. Just be real descriptive and more specific.
