How long do you wait to mark a best response?

I'm just curious because I've answered lots of discussions and I'm finding discussions that are only an hour long, have very few responses, yet they've already picked their best response. I wait a day or two at least, and never give a best response until people have had a chance to respond. I even saw one that had 2 responses, and was only half an hour old, yet it had already marked it's best response. So, how long do you wait? A day or two? Or longer...until you at least give others an opportunity to respond? Like I said, just curious because I've answered a lot of questions lately that seem to have been given a best response early in the discussion.

I usually wait 3 or 4 days, depending on the number of responses. I have some discussions that only had 2 or 3 responses after a long time that I just marked best responses for just to clear them from unresolved. I like to allow adequate time for all my friends to respond if they want before I pick the best of the best.

See, that's kind of how I feel too...I like to give everybody a good chance for their input before picking best response. You never know what gem might come up later on in the discussion. Like you, I've had some that only ever got a couple responses over a month or two, and then I'll resolve it to make sure my unresolved responses don't pile up.

Yes, it is kind of how i do it 2. I got a bit upset when i responded to one of my friend and he already gave the best response, after a few hours, and now i gave a better response ( i believe) but now it does not matter because the best response was already been given. I have not received a best response so far, and i feel kind of bad about it; i know it is not a big thing, but still i wish for it to happen, you know ?

Hi Joy, that is a good question, sometimes I forget to mark the best response. I think that a person should at least wait for at least a day or so, but for the people that is just starting here, they don't get a lot of replys, they had to get more friends. Ok, Have a nice Eving! It is getting chilly at night, when will the weather ever get to be warm?

Hi Marcy! I think we all forget about marking them here and there, lol, I know I do! For the new people, I always try and answer some 'new user discussions' and some 'discussions with no responses', lots of times they get lost in the pile, and it must be discouraging if you're a new person! I agree, a day or few is a reasonable wait to mark b.r. (Yes....it's way too chilly for NE Ohio at the end of May! We want summer already!!!!! Bring it on...)

hi JoyfulOne i think i've only gave the 'best response' for several times those response i picked is the one that really hit me.. ehehe all responses i got are the best responses that people gave to my discussions and i find myself hard to pick one it's not fair because everybody were giving the best, so since i can only choose one, i prefer to choose nothing by responding back their responds is my way to show how i appreciate them i hope they'll understand my way.. hehee but if you ask how long should we wait before choosing the best one ? maybe i'll say one week .. one week might be too long, but i think it's the longest time we can give to the discussion and chances to people respond i think one week is enough.. ^^ thanks JoyfulOne .. !!

Hi unuzzz! It IS sometimes hard to pick one isnt it?! A week is a decent amount of time, that isn't too short. It's the ones that are posted the same day and only a half an hour old (or have only been posted for an hour) that I wonder about. Thanks for your comments! Joy

That's about the amount of time I often use too. It just depends on how many responses there are (like if it's a really active subject) then I will let it go longer until responses slow down. True, sometimes the best one comes early into the discussion.

I just been here more than 1 week, and be frankly I didn't mark a best response as I don't know to do that. So, the thing I need to do now is to the discussions I've started and to mark the best response. Thanks for your reminding.

Hi...welcome to the group! It is easy to forget to give a best response. Sometimes we get busy responding to other posts and it entirely slips our mind lol.

I usually wait quite a while, a week or more. I know that some people believe that you give best response to your first response. I do not agree. First is not always best.Sometimes it is that a responder is a close friend.

Hi Gerty! You know, a while ago I remember somebody saying that the first response should be marked best. I don't agree with that tack either, because like you said...first is not always the best. Thanks for commenting, that was a viewpoint I didn't really think about.

Yes, I also got curious of why others would do that (choosing a best response though the post is still fresh and hot). Whenever I start my own (which is very often nowadays, I only login here to respond on other member's posts), I usually wait until I've seen that my post won't be responded by others anymore. My minimum would be a week, then search for the most deserving responder and mark it as the best response.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who's curious and has wondered. Exactly...when a post is still fresh and a hot one, then to me it would seem to make sense to wait until more responses roll in. Good tactic! Thanks for your response here.

I generally wait a week or so before awarding a best response. I like to give people plenty of time to respond, then I have the choice.

That's a good amount of time to wait. To me it just seems fair to let others who respond have a chance to voice their opinions too.

I usually try to wait a few days to mark my Best Response to give everyone a chance to earn it. But if I get a response while i'm still MyLotting around and I think it's really insightful and adds depth to the discussion. sometimes i'll mark it right then and there.

Yeah, I try and wait a few days too. I figure somebody might add some excellent input further down the line, or look at it from a different angle with good insight :-) Thanks for your answer (inquiring minds want to know lol)

I don't have a set time. To tell the truth, sometimes I don't do it for months. I forget to do that, then have a long list of "unresolved" discussions and have to spend hours picking BRs. That's probably why some people do them quickly, so they don't pile up.

I've waited a month or two too on some of them, depending on how many responses there were. That's true about them piling up...good point.

For me I'm bad about giving best responses. So for me it sure isn't the first few responses that I give best responses. Speaking of which I probably have some discussions that I do need to give best response to yet. Though I don't tend to start many discussions, I do more responding than anything.

I kind of do more responding to discussions than starting them too lol. Sometimes it's hard to pick a best response. Quite often I find that there are a lot that are very good responses. Thanks for your input.

I usually try to let my discussions run between 3 and 6 days before I mark a best response. That way I allow people time to answer. I know that some people are not on every day and I like to give everyone a chance to respond who wants to. I know that sometimes you will get responses beyond that time-frame and that is wonderful but I figure that if I give it 3 - 6 days then I have gotton the majority of the responses that I am going to. Now I change that little rule on the last day of the month. Anything that has not recieved best response by the time I am going to bed on the last day of the month gets one. I don't know if it helps people's income or not but in case it does I always try to clean it all up on the last day. :)

That's a good way of looking at it. I don't know either whether it helps other peoples income or not, would be interesting to find out (although I'm not going to hold my breath, who knows how their algorhythms work?! lol) Thanks for your answer sisterjinx :-)

Sometimes I wait up to a year to mark best response. Other times, I mark best response after a few hours. I like to close out new discussions before one AM.

I think I would wait a week or something, to give proper opportunity to all to respond. In that much of a time frame, one would get as many responses. There will be responses coming in after that too. But then we have to put a time limit somewhere to choose the best response. We cant leave the discussion unresolved endlessly. Nor does choosing a best response close the discussion.
