Wandering about with the earphones in

Today I gave my wife a lift on the short journey to where she works. Normally she would walk this short distance but she has been sick and didn't feel up to it today.
As I drove I had three near miss incidents with pedestrians who seemed prepared to step off the pavement (sidewalk) into the path of the car without looking.
Two of these had headphones in from presumably a music player, and the other was jabbering on his cell phone.
All three were in a little world all of their own and seemed oblivious to their dangerous environment.
How many people do you see in this zombified state?

I rarely see it outside because I live in a really small town. I do see it in my home when my daughters are in their own ipod moments. I admit it does drive me nuts when I need their attention and call for them with no response only to go find them and they scream when I touch them to get their attention. I guess that they could be doing a lot worse*L* I can imagine it being an issue with people walking or running where traffic may be. They should put a warning label on them saying this could be a danger to your health if you don't pay attention to your surroundings or your mother.*L*

Normally teenagers are in this state of mind.To kill boredom,they plug in their favorite music into their ears,maybe they get too immersed with the music and forgotten about the real world.If not careful,it can cost them their life.
Have to make sure my daughter to grow up to become one of them.

I had an incident a little while ago when a pedestrian wearing his headphones stepped directly into the road in front of me as I was driving. Good job I have good brakes and reactions. This happens more and more frequently now, I am amazed that there are not more serious injuries or fatalities on the roads due to these idiots being totally oblivious of their surroundings.
