$1500 is what the church we normally attend charges to have wedding ceremonies there. Mind you, we attend there on a regular basis. If we didn't, it would be $2500! Of course we have chosen to have our wedding elsewhere. I do not understand how a church can be so greedy! And we've stopped attending. I can not support or be involved in a church that does that. How would you feel? What would you do?

Hi Mare, That is a lot of money. I'm not sure how big your church is or their policies on things. My church doesn't charge members for weddings. We do have a fee for non-members. I don't know what it is but it is no where near $1500. I would find out why they charge that much. I would talk to the pastor about it. Maybe you can come here and get married in my church?

$1500 for the minister you mean or just to have the wedding there?? Either way thats insane!! IF I were a church goer I wouldnt be pleased with that mysefl in all honesty..BUT reality is that church is more of a business these days than it is a spiritual gathering etc etc ya know.. Do you have other ideas of where you want to have it done or are you in the process of looking?

That includes the officiant, a MANDATORY wedding coordinator from the church, and pre-marital classes. I think it's a bunch of bologna (sorry God). We're looking elsewhere. I have a few calls into a couple of different churches; that although they do charge, it's not outrageous like that. We could do it where we are having the reception, but I don't want that...I want a church.

That does seem like a really high price! Maybe if it was a huge castle/cathedral type church and I was planning the ultimate fantasy wedding...but otherwise I'd settle for the back yard if that was the price I was given for a church around here. For my first wedding it was $250 for non-members and $150 for members and that was only a bit over 10 years ago. What if anything does that amount cover besides the 'rental fee'? You know, like the minister, the pianist/organist? I don't think I could be involved with a church that greedy either. I would definitely find a new church to attend and an alternate wedding location.

It covers the basics, pastor, pre-marital counseling and wedding coordinator. That's it.
