To be successful or to attract a good readership in the online community there is a need for you to be short and straight to the point in your writings. Your ability to put your thoughts across in very short sentences will make your articles attractive to your readers .Being very brief and concise goes a long way to show that you know what you are doing and also earn you respect from readers. When you write articles for online publishing do you write long sentences or are you brief and straight to the point? SPOT the difference in these emails and tell me which you prefer to read. “Mary, I am hungry. I was wondering if you were hungry too. When people are hungry, that is a sign that they need to eat. Since we might both be hungry, I was perhaps wondering if you might care to join me for a meal in the near future. The second one reads thus “Mary I am getting hungry, would you like to meet me for lunch today at noon? Now these two mails are meant to ask Mary to join the writer for lunch but what do you think is wrong with one of them?

I agree totally with your point! If you're going to take time to write, you want people to understand what you're saying! Using an excessive amount of words, or big words that aren't necessary, can drive the average reader away! As for your two sentences, in the first one the person is probably already at the drive-thru before you get done asking them out to lunch!

yes thanks for your response i hardly have time reading through a long mail so when a mail or anything takes long before getting to the point i am miles away from it.

I am guessing that there is too much information in one of those sentences!

I think this is true! When I ask a question, it is sometimes answered with information that I already knew, and I have to say that I understand that but I am asking about this...

I like the second one. Yes, and it is brief. This is so true, when you are reading articles in the internet brevity is indeed a factor. :)

thanks for yor response insensitivity is a factor that makes people write what i will call "so long a letter" when writing for internet consumption,it negatively affects theior readership unfortunately.
