Cat Nap?

Shirley likes to sneak into my lower cabinet doors and crawl around, up into the dishtowel drawer and take a nap. Both her and her sister (Laverne, of course!) did this a couple of months ago and I didn't realize they were in there. I opened the drawer to get a clean towel and jumped and screamed to high heavens - two kitties nestled into my towels and dishcloths is obviously not what I expected to see when I opened that drawer! I didn't have a camera ready at that time, but I grabbed it when Shirley did it again last week. Doesn't she look a bit perturbed at having her nap interrupted? Do your cats have a special hiding place, or somewhere odd that they like to go to get away from it all?

This I have to see.. Yes my daughters cat has many different places to hide and sleep..One of which is the brown paper bag I have to hold other folded brown paper bags..The first time we saw her go in there, we played a trick on my husband..I asked him to get me a paper bag and he jumped back and yelled, we all started laughing..btw, this cat is black and the bag was in a dark part of the kitchen, so you know he had to reach in pretty far before realizing there was a cat..

Kitty in a Drawer -
Shirley loves to sneak into the cabinet and up into my dishtowel drawer for a nap!
Grrrr ... The picture was there when I made the post, I don't know what happened to it, but here it is. Oh yes, I don't know a single cat that doesn't like a plain old brown paper bag! I've got pictures here of mine in them too.

Yes, she has the same look my daughters cat has, like, "what do you want?"

That is adorable! I think young cats or kittens are more likely to do this than older ones. My cat is 5 years old and quite big so his favorite napping spot is our king size bed. He dutifly wakes us up in the morning and then takes over the bed for his naps. He reminds me of that dog on the commercial who brings his owner breakfast in bed and sends him off then sleeps in the bed when he's gone. Now if we could just teach Buff to make breakfast we'd have it made. lol

Shirley sleeps on the bed or couch all day too, unless my husband is here; then she's in his lap.

Cute. My daughter when she was maybe 6 or a little older had a cat she loved and wanted it with her at all times. One day the wife and I could not find the cat searching up and down the whole house. After an hour or so of searching we heard a "meoooooowwww" distressed sounding as well. We followed the sound. Oh my this was cute and so funny. She had cleared out one of her dresser drawers and set a small pillow with a bath towel also and her cat was napping in there with the drawer closed tightly. We have no idea how long but it had to be awhile. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I love to hear these stores, both about our kids and our pets. She put it in there like one of her doll babies!

I don't have any cats at the moment but my dog loves to hide in areas where we cannot get to him or find him either sometimes. He gets so scared when we get out a loaf of bread and put a slice or two in the toaster or when we fire up our gas oven. He also gets scared of thunder or if we hammer something. His favorite place to hide is behind our toilet in the bathroom. People have went to the bathroom, not even knowing he was there and when they see him, they say they get shocked because they had no clue he would go there or be there.

He's afraid of the toaster? Wow, I've never heard of that. Loud noises I could understand, but my toaster isn't very loud. I know I would be a bit spooked if I used the bathroom and didn't see him there right away!

Oh no, poor kitty! I hope everything heels ok. It's hard keeping them down even when they've been injured. I know it was tough to keep my girls from jumping on/off the furniture after they got fixed.

LOL- that is funny! I would have jumped, too. My cat goes into our closet to get away from it all. I want to get one of those "cat condos" for her...but that isn't in the budget any time soon. So, for now she goes into our closet. She also likes going into my daughters room- no one bugs her in there...though how the cat can possibly think loud music is restful is beyond me. haha. But yesterday she was in there all day and slept soundly ALL DAY. She got up early evening, and she was quite mischievous come bedtime...grrr. She is not doing that again...at least when she sleeps out in the dining room (her and the dog like to sleep under the table) she is disturbed enough that she doesn't get a good sound sleep and is still tired at bedtime.

Cats are naturally nocturnal, so mine sleeps most of the day and goes out at night, most of the time. The day I took this picture I had seen her crawl up into the cabinet, so I knew what to expect. When Laverne and Shirley both did it, I had no idea and really was just going to get a towel and opened the drawer and about pee'd my pants!

Sam and Chabby would sleep in the bed I made for them(out of recycled box and foam). They're stray cats but to my surprise, they have an orientation of what a house is and what a bed is.But now,Chabby was given away and Sam got lost and was never found.Sam is such a darling.I wish he was still with us.I know Chabby is in good hand since his new master gives him a lot of food.

My two wandered into the yard as tiny kittens too, so we took them in long enough (I thought) to tame them enough to get to the vet to get spayed. They started to go out at night, and Laverne just didn't come back one morning. We still don't know what happened, but Shirley is still doing well and quite spoiled.

That is so cute! Our cat loves to crawl up in the storage area of our golf cart in the little compartment behind the steering wheel. He thinks he is a dog, though. We have two other dogs and they all hang together like three dogs. It is so funny to see them. I guess our cat gets in there because the two dogs sit in the seat of the golf cart like they are taking a ride. LOL

Oh Shirley definitely acts like a dog a good part of the time. She follows my husband around just like a puppy. Doesn't matter where she is sleeping, if he comes home she jumps up and over to greet him. She also turns over to get her belly rubbed. Yep, she's spoiled.

Ooh, the look at that grouchy kitty's face. Actually, it would have been more fun to see your reaction the first time they did this. My little dog doesn't have any unusual hiding places. He does like to burrow under the afghans and covers though, and has gotten himself sat on a few times!

Yes, I do think she was perturbed. I wouldn't mind her going in there but honestly, I don't relish the idea of drying the dishes with a towel full of cat hair! Oh, poor puppy. Hopefully he doesn't get squashed too bad!

I have always liked that about Cats, if they want to be unseen they know just how to do it, lol. My Samone likes to hide under my bed way in the farthest corner. She also will hide unde chairs, in closets if left open. I remember when she was very young , she got locked in one of my Buffett drawers. All of a sudden I hear this faint scratching. I think she feel alseep in there, who knew? Not me. Anyway she sure was happy when I investigated and let her out.

Cats go back to natural instincts about so many things, I wonder if they like to do this because it's what big cats would do in the wild. When not out hunting, they'd be hiding I guess.

Isn't it funny how animals love bathrooms? My husband's dog used to go in there with him all the time, and now our cat likes to follow him. Well, she follows him everywhere like a dog anyway.

and the funny part, so do i. i feel that the bathroom is the most relaxing place in my townhouse...these animals are really smart...they sense things well and feel the comfort of the bathroom, the same comfort we get from it. lots of times when i couldnt find my pet, i saw them curled up and sleeping in the bathroom on the mat.

That is too cute and too funny. We once had two male kittens. They was about 4 weeks old and my son at the time was 4 yo. So all three of them was quite mischeivious. They ruled our downstairs bathroom. Well it was Lucky that ruled it but Sammy always followed his lead. His name is Lucky because when he was born his mother took a chunk out of his head, and yet he survived. But a little crazy. He was obsessed with the toilet. If he seen someone go near his bathroom he was right there to investigate. He would hide his teddy bear (that was bigger than him) and anything else he found behind the toilet. He would also jump up on the toilet and watch the water go down. If he heard a toilet flush or bath water, he came running lol. Never seen a cat obsessed over water. Oh yeah they would sleep in the bathroom sink too. They would also sleep or just flat hide under the couch so when you walked by or sat down you was had. LOL. Anyway, my son decided one day to lock them up in his dresser drawer without my knowledge. So when I went upstairs to get on the computer I kept hearing this faint meowing sound. I sept trying to follow to see if it was getting louder but just couldn't figure it out. I checked every drawer in there. He had stuffed them in a pair of my socks! Poor things was about to go crazy when I finally got them out! He also went to pee one day and Lucky jumped on the toilet to investigate so he pushed him in and shut the lid and kept flushing. I couldn't figure out why I kept hearing flushing sounds. Poor kittens. He never did learn his lesson. :-D

Sure sounds like fun at your house! There's really never a dull moment where animals (or kids) are involved. Thanks for sharing your story. It put a smile on my face early this morning. (I wasn't smiling before because Shirley woke me up at 4:50 to come in)

PS, I have a male pekinese who likes to sleep in the bathtub. Something about bathrooms. He doesn't do it alot. Mainly to look for his rubber duck that he plays with so I can bath him. He also sleeps under one of those round tables that is made of particle board and the legs screw in. The table cloth is off white which is the same color as him except for his mouth and nose which is black. So one day I was walking by and out of the corner of my eye he moved and all I saw was something black move toward me really quick. I screamed and ran in the bathroom. LOL. I scared him so he sstarted barking thinking someone was at the door. I on the other hand thought it was a big ugly rat or something and he was barking at it. By the end of the day I relized that it was my dog Bear and there was no critter in my house. Whew :D
