I love my American neighbours...

I was away last weekend in Seattle Washington. It had been 15 years since I last was in the States and I guess my perception was a little skewed. I began thinking that what I saw on TV was what Americans are like. It is so far from the truth. Absolutely everyone I met from the moment I left Canadian soil was great. I think all too often we let the media cloud our judgment of our neighbouring countries when in reality we are really more alike that we know. So thank you to all you Americans that make us Canadians feel welcome in your country.

Aw! That was nice! Thanks! It's very nice to hear.. as so often we do hear how terribly bad we are in all ways.. and yes, I'm referring to the media, often our own! Glad you had a nice visit!

The media does tend to focus on the bad in people. All I saw was the good in people from the street people to the customer service in all the stores and restaurants. I will be back!

WhyWiki that is a comforting statement. you are right we draw far to many conclusions about other countries from what we see and hear. The stereotypes are often unfair, and not at all what is truth. Thank you for this reminder and acknowledgment.

It is hard not to stereotype at times and when I do it I know I am wrong but do it anyways. I think I need to see more of the world to get a real grasp on society.

You are so right, it took a trip like this to put in back into perspective for me. After all we all put our pants on one leg at a time!

Wow as a proud American I would like to thank you very much for writing about your experience in the states. If people would just remember around the world there are good and bad in every country but when it comes down to it we are all humans that experience all the same feelings. Do not group together to judge but to explore the different personalities that each portray in life. We can all learn lots from one another and that is what makes the world go round. Be Free, love thy neighbor and always live by the golden rule, treat one as you would like to be treated yourself. I mean how could you go wrong or be misinterpeted with doing those things? Have a wonderful day and come back soon!

I really believe in the golden rule too and if we all lived by it the world as a whole would be so much better. I will be back to the USA soon I think as next stop New York City! I have always wanted to see New York so that is my next mission, I am sure even the east coasters are nice!
