Do you use candles on your birthday cake?

For my last birthday, I chose not to use candles. Only because I didn't want to set the curtains on fire. LOL! But once, a few years ago, my spouse decided to surprise me with a big chocolate cake. And, by the time he had added all the candles and lit them, it looked like a small bonfire. The entire top of the cake was covered with candles. He still shakes his head in embarrassment every time I bring it up. He thought he was doing something special and it turned out to be bad. Actually, I thought it was romantic. Do you use candles on the top of your cake? Or, some type of decorations?

Yes I put candles on birthday cakes, but I do not use the little thin ones, I tend to buy the novelty candles. I get them from a shop near me and they do all sorts of different ones, they do candle numbers and candle names and sometimes candles in all different shapes. They work out a lot better than having to put loads of them on a cake!! Probably safer too.

I may get a novelty candle next time. Make things more fun. Getting older is no fun, candles should be.

Usually I have candles on my cake every year. Sometimes it's just the regular small birthday candles and other times it's the numbered candles. For my 21st birthday in September we had the bumber candles just because it was easier to do.

I used one of those big candles once. It was not as nice as small candles, but definitely took up less space.

We used to put candles on my cake but it got to the point that it took too long to light each one. And my family doesn't really care if we have candles or not. I guess the novelty of them wore off. That and it's just my close family and I celebrating my birthday.
