Have you ever been in the shower, or running a bath for that matter and all of a sudden there is no hot water to be found. If you have teenagers, I am almost sure you know what I am talking about. Those water heaters only hold so much hot water. I couldn't count the times that has happened to me, but what can you do? I have found that what works for me is timing, either taking a shower as soon as I get home, or to wait a while after everyone else is done. How about you, have you ever gotten a "cold shoulder" when the hot water ran out?

When this happens to me I just finish my shower as fast as I can. I hate taking cold showers.. unless it is really hot out. This doesn't really happen often since I live in an apartment, though. It shouldn't be happening, either, because I pay for my water and I deserve it to be hot when I want

I just take my shower as fast as I possibly can also. I try not to use all the hot water at all. I always be conservative at all costs. I always love to take long and hot soaks as well. I never like cold showers at all.

I do the same, but I do hate having to rush when I would have waited a while in the first place had I known the hot water would run out. Usually I have my to boys to thank for this chilling experience.

I don't normally have the problem of running out of hot water because of someone else using it all. I run out of hot water in the shower because I am an idiot and I foolishly start the dishwasher or the washing machine a few minutes before I can sneak away to take a shower. Nothing like a blast of freezing water to wake a person up.

I have had that happen as well. Nothing like getting out of an ice cold shower and hearing the washing machine running.

Jer, I do not have that problem as much now in our new home as the last home we owned. Bigger hot water tank. I have to take a really fast one however if I must take a shower right after my 13 year old Son. Why is it they think they have to stand under the water 20 minutes before they actually start washing themselves. My middle son used to sit in the bathtub while the shower was running in the mornings to wake up. you are so right in that timing is everything! LMAO.

Oh, this is an ongoing problem at my house, jer31558. I never seem to get a hot shower any more. I have two teenagers and my wife thinks a shower has to last a minnimum of 30 mins...so, unless I jump in first, I am left out in the cold. I take pretty fast showers too, having no hair helps in that respect.

Some times I take a long one, but I wait for several hours after the last one before I take it. I hurry and wash and then just enjoy the hot shower. If it runs out, no problem at all as I am already washed and rinsed.

I try to take my showers when nobody is home during the week. On the weekend I am usually the one to use up all the hot water. My husband knows that it is going to happen so if he gets in right after I am done...well the clock is ticking. He even asks me if I used all the hot water and I say yes. So, he was fairly warned. He doesn't take long showers anyway. The most recent time I got a cold shower was a couple months back now. I told my husband that I was going to take a shower. I was in for a few minutes and suddenly the water was freezing! I still had shampoo in my hair but I hopped out and walked out of the bathroom. There was my husband running the water in the kitchen on all hot. I think he was rinsing off the baby's tray. But he just left it running onto it and walked away. He used up every drop of hot water, I was so mad!

Well, I am sure it was an accident and he didn't mean to leave you chillin with shampoo in your hair.

hi in our apartment complex we each have our own water heater and amazinling I can shower for quite awhile and not run out of hot water. its a large heater and of course there are only me and my adult son to be using the water so that also helps. so I never get that dreaded cold shoulder any more.

fortunately, i never have to experience that in my house as i only live with my hubby... but i experience it whenever i go to a church camp and there are about 30 people are using the shower... then i will have a cold shower in the middle of my shower... whati do is to be the first one to wake up and take a shower before everybody else... or i take my bath the night before i go to sleep... just to make sure that i get to enjoy the hot water... take care and have a nice day...

I guess in your case, instead of the early bird getting the worm, the early bird get the hot water while you are at camp.

Hello jer, I grew up in the Philippines and we don't have any hot shower there, I mean in my parents house so I have no problem dealing about it! But, when I got here, specially during winter, My god, I can't stand without any hot water, if that will happen to me, I might be jumping and escape from taking a shower..LOL!

I had not considered that some people have not the luxury of a hot shower at all. I bet it was quite a change for you wasn't it?

I don't need a teenager for that. I have a hubby. He does this on ocassion. He is infamous for 25 minute hot showers that can peel the paint in the bathroom. I know it is sometimes how he chooses to relax. So every once in the while I shower in the evening. Problem solved for now.

What can I say, I am guilty of the same thing from time to time. I generally take my shower after everyone else for that reason though.

Oh boy, have I ever! But now that the kids have moved out and the husband got his divorce, I no longer have to worry about freezing in the shower! Well, for awhile anyway, one of my kids might move to my state and live with me and that "cold shoulder" would be so worth it to have him here!

Well I do hope that your son does come to live with you cause it seems something that you really desire. I am sure I would welcome that "cold shoulder" in just such a situation myself.

Well sometimes when I do take my shower, I run out of hot water. It happens a lot. Well, depending on the type of home I do live in. So I be real careful about the amount of time the hot water is active. I do not know if anyone else uses all the hot water at all.

I keep trying to tell you we need to look into one of the new tankless heaters that heats the water as you use it! If you don't start listening, you may end up with more than a "cold shoulder".

Well I may just have to look into those cause when I overflow the tub, the water is usually too cold to stay in it.

Happens all the time at my house. It is a race to get a shower BEFORE the 15 yr old. He spends about an hr in there...drives me crazy!

What is it with teens and using all the hot water. Does the last drop of hot water somehow get you cleaner than the first???

Yes, this has happened to me on many occassions. It's typically someone deciding to do their laundry or wash dishes (using hot water) while I'm taking a shower. The best option I've come up with is to take a shower early in the morning or really late at night. I've also learned to shorten the amount of time I spend in the shower so that I won't end up taking a cold shower.

I'm usually pretty good in determining when to take the hot shower before everyone else gets it all. Of course, it's always a good idea to take one with another person to conserve water.

At my house if you are taking a shower...and someone in the kitchen gets a drink of cold water! Yikes!!! You are almost burned! So we have always alerted others to do what they need to do before someone gets in to take a shower.

Talk about a bad time to run out of hot water. I could see myself with a hair full of soap waiting for the water to warm back up. That is just what I would do too.

We used to have this problem all of the time. My brother finally talked my parents into a bigger hot water heater a few years ago. I have moved out since then and since I'm in an apartment I don't have to worry about it until I'm home for holidays. After 5 or 6 showers its right back to cold water. There isn't much worse than not having hot water in the morning.

I know what you mean, there are 6 of us in our house. We do not have a shower and so it is all baths for us. I tend to try and time it so that my bath night falls on a night when no one else is having one, or not anyone is having a bath. Many a time I have gone to have a bath only to discover that there is only an inch of hot water, and for someone who likes to wallow for a while in a full tub, it is just no good!!
