I don't really like giving money as a gift as I think it spells a lack of thought about what your friend would really like. However, I appreciate that in some instances it is both more sensible and much appreciated. Older children and teenagers often appreciate money which they can put towards something that you perhaps wouldn't budget for on your own, and receiving the money is better than you making an error and getting something they're not interested in. One way around giving money is to buy a voucher with the money, for a store that your friend enjoys. Or even just give him the money but with a note attached saying that it is intended for a particular thing. Of course, they can still spend it on what they'd like of course, but at least there's a chance it will go on something enjoyable ratehr than the grocery bill or fuel tank!

That's very kind of you. I'm sure your friend will be very grateful, whatever you choose to give. Enjoy the party!

If I knew what the friend wanted I would buy a gift but if I wasn't sure I would give them money. I would prefer to give a present if I knew what to buy but if I couldn't figure out what to buy I would get a gift card or give cash.

When theer is some function comes and also of an important friend or close relative, on ealways land up in confusion in what gift will be better on those occassions isnt it? if more confused on buying a gift, one can always go for gift cheque any bank will provide as thsi cheque can be used for any purpose by the one who gets it....

Giving present is the best idea for me because in that way your friend will remember you whenever he or she uses your present. Money will be spent and your friend will forget one day. If you give perfume or a decoration piece for his house, then whenever he uses the perfume or see the decoration piece in his or her house, your friend will remember you.

I would give your friend a gift card to his favorite store so he can buy himself just what he really wants. I always give gift cards to my son, and he really enjoys getting them as he can buy something he really wanted.

I would prefer to give a present because a present may represent a something but wealth can represent nothing as far as the present can.

if you give him money he will be able to buy something that he needs and if you give him a present he will always remember that you give him this present on his birthday and it will be as his memories.

I have a lots and lots of friends in school and as well as at home.. I speak a lot so i make friend quickly..Once friends are made it is common to share everything...whethet happiness or sadness.. As i have a lots of friend i am invited in birthday paties and other home functions and i need to probably give something..so,I go to gift shop and most commonly buy a card and bundles of flowers..and off course in some occassions a large present... But i cant recall the last time i gave money as a present to friend! And i think its not good coz presents are for memories and love.. According to me money doesnt value...As a present!!

I think I would give him/her a red-packet as present (containing money) and ask him/her to buy a present for himself/herself . Moreover he/she can collect all the red-packets (money) to buy something ( say mobile phone or laptop...) that he/she needs most. I think this is better.

I think if you know where he likes to shop, you can get him a gift card from that shop. That way he can go, when he likes and be able to get whatever he likes from there. Cash is easier and simply a good idea now with the economy on the craps. He can get whatever he needs, like gas, food, etc. I know that's what I would want for my birthday if people were giving me gifts.

It depends. Some of my friends when they throw a birthday party, gift tip is already written in the invitation. So that, we as visitors have an idea on what to give. Here in Holland it is common to give cash or gift check to the celebrant. But for me, I always give some nice memorable present... a present to remember...;) Goodluck!

I would like to give a present instead of money .a present means u spend some time in thinking about the person his likes and dislikes before selecting a give gift .ALSO whenever the person sees the gift he wil remember u .Giving money shows u have no time to spare .

I would prefer to give your friend a present instead of money. When you buy something, your friend can keep it and remember you one day when he sees it again somewhere in his closet.
