how to hide a file in the computer ?

i'm completely a stranger with my computer.. hahaa i only use my computer for typing, listening to the musics, browsing and chatting .. that's all .. LoL i have no idea about softwares or any modern applications please help me ooo computer experts out there .. !! i have some files that need to be secured like my design works, my financial records, etc.. i caught one of my friend was checking my computer, and that made me a little panic that day.. haha since the folders my friend opened contain those files that are very private and valuable to me please help me how to hide and unhide my files ? does those hidden files will appear if i search it through the search button ? thanks in advance for the informations .. ^^

The trick I was doing in this case was to create a new user name on that PC, be sure that you are the only one knows the password and user name if really wants to make it for your eyes only. then use this username and password when you boot the PC that way any files you have created using your private user name will not be viewed or access by the username you normally do.Good luck...

You could try the open source freeware program called TrueCrypt at http://www.truecrypt.org/ What this program do is create an additional encrypted drive just for your files. You have to login to it to access it(mount drive), once you open it you can use it like a USB drive. When your out for a while and your screensaver activates, your drive will be automatically remove(dismounted). So only you and you alone will have access to your files. The drive size can be configured to suit your needs and it employ industry strong encryption. You could even create a hidden part within an encrypted drive.
