My buddy is getting his TEFL Certificate so he can go teach english overseas. Apparently there are folks all over the world who will pay big bucks just to learn even a little english for their careers or what not. I would head out east and he's planning on heading to the middle east. Even cooler. I guess everybody wants to learn english. I'd love to know arabic or chinese or japanese myself.

The only language that I know anything about is English. I can speak it and write it fairly well. I tried to learn Spanish when I was in junior high school but I didn't learn a whole lot with it. I have forgotten everything that I did learn also except for a few numbers.

I am a native English speaker and know that my langauge is a very popular one to learn in many different parts of the world. I learned French at school, studied a tiny amount of German and now I am trying to learn Spanish. I like it in Central America and I would love to go to South America, where Spanish is spoken. My friend's sister did a degree in the History of Art and then she did a TEFL Certificate. She got jobs in Spain, Poland and Russia. Now she has come back to the UK and is a secondary school teacher. My ex-husband teaches English in China. I work as a primary school teacher and one day I might do a TEFL course and teach overseas.

Of course they'll pay big bucks for English - it's a major key to the world - to money and success. Because of course us British decided to conquer half the world, and so in a lot of countries English is either the first or second language - and the one in which most paperwork/business transations etc. are produced. Those born with English as a mother-tongue, such as myself, are born with a considerable advantage. Though due to this we tend to remain blissfully ignorant of the rest of the world and their language/cultures. I can't wait to finally be fluent in another language. For now i'm focusing on Spanish because it's the second most widely spoken language in the world, after English, so i reckon if i have them both...

I've heard a few times in grade school that english is one of the hardest languages to learn because we have so many meanings for one single word as well as different spellings and meanings to words that sound the same. I don't know if that's true or not but I'm sure it would be hard to learn any language on your own. I'd pay someone to help me learn other languages if I had the money.

It's not because everyone want to learn English, it's because they have to learn English in order to get a better job, a better life, and the opportunity to trade internationally.

Your English is very good, so I imagine you have been speaking it for a long time. I can understand you wanting to learn another language. Perhaps someone who already knows Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, etc. as well as you or I know English feels the exact same way about learning English.
