Letters of Recommendation...

I asked my boss for a letter of recommendation and he told me to type one that I thought he would feel comfortable signing and he would sign it... This sounded strange to me but I did what he requested and I am hoping that he will sign the letter of recommendation that I wrote tomorrow... I am wondering if this "write your own letter of recommendation and I will sign it" is a common practice or not... What do you think about it? Do you think that it is appropriate to write your own letter of recommendation? Have you ever had to write your own letter of recommendation? If you were asked for a letter of recommendation, have you ever told an employee to write a letter of recommendation for you to sign?

No I had them write it I wanted to see what they said If I liked it I would use it if not I wouldnt. Only ever asked for one and to me it was glowing from a bossthat made the women before me cry but he would have me stay out and talk when he caught me outside smoking lol

I am glad that you got a glowing letter. I wound up talking after hours with my boss too and singing as well with him... He is a good man and I will miss working with him.

My boss was great. The letter was accepted by him and he had it typed on business letterhead. He said that he would do anything he could to help me as I was a good worker and was reliable.

as long as my own experience, my ex-boss always asked me to write down my own recommendation letter. on the first time, i felt so strange to write down anything about myself and not my ex-boss did it or even the human resources. but his words was quit true too that if i asked someone to write down my recommendation letter what i mentioned in here is human resources personnel, they won't state my working experience clearly thats why i should write down my own recommendation letter. however, my ex-boss would not absolutely gave approval about the recommendation letter that i wrote which means i could not put anything too overwhelmed description about my own self too

It was the same here... made sure that it was something that he would sign. He had the office staff type it on some stationary, changed a phone number on it and signed it... It was great to have it.
