Do you use monofilament (clear) thread for quilting?

Fabric Panel for Wall Hanging - This is the panel I wish to use as a wall hanging, but I want to quilt it first.

I have this beautiful fabric panel that I'd like to machine quilt and then use as a wall hanging. Has anyone used the monofilament or clear thread for machine quilting? Did you like the effect? I've included a picture of the panel I wish to quilt. I'd appreciate any other ideas for color of thread, etc.

i'd never tried it actually, though my mom did once, and i found it..well,i could feel the thread when i used it.but for a wall hanging,i bet that would be okay :) i don't know if you'd like it for your piece, but i'd used a silver metallic thread once and it looked really nice.

Thank you for the idea of the silver metallic thread! I wouldn't have thought of that. I just ordered the walking foot for my machine, so hopefully I'll get my wall hanging done soon. :)

Have you quilted your panel yet? I'd like to see it if you have. I've used monofilament thread, with no problems. Some machines even let you put in in the bobbin, so it doesn't show through. There are different types of "clear" thread, just like there are colored thread. I have heard that the nylon varieties are softer than the polyester (fish line type) monofilaments, but I haven't tried them. Goodluck and have fun, that is the most important thing! Oh... and your panel is very pretty! As said above, I can't wait to see it finished!
