Gas or electric?

Which would you prefer to cook on? I learned to cook on electric, but I'm real partial to gas. I prefer gas because I can better control the amount of heat, and when you turn it down it cools down instantly. With electric you have to move the pan off the burner and wait for it to cool down.

we own a gas range with an electric stove. when our gas runs out & we really need to cook, we use the electric stove while waiting for the gas. i believe using an electric stove costs higher. that's why we always use gas. but now, since the price of gas starts to rise, there will come a time when using electricity for cooking will be cheaper compared to using gas.

Well, I currently have both an electric stove and oven. However, when the time comes to upgrade I will be upgrading to gas. Like you say, the heat is instant and you have more control over it.

Yes, especially when you're making baked vegetables.

I use to think I wanted a gas top with an electric oven, but I've noticed food seems to bake better in a gas oven.

I grew up cooking on a gas stove. I now have lived in a house that only has an electic hookup so I have been using electic for 9 years now. I would much rather cook on a gas stove than an electric on though.

When I had to use electric after 19 years of using gas, I couldn't even boil water without burning it lol

I would prefer electric. It costs less on your bill.. Gas tends to be too high..

Our gas tank, which is only used for cooking lasts about two years I guess. It holds 50 gallons.

I have the preference of electric for its easyly use and its cleaness.what is more, lots of electric cookers are automatic.it is so convenience that you can prepare your dinner just for a press on the buttom!

I might like electric if I ever had one of those ceramic flat cook tops. I really hate haveing to clean the top of the stove all the time. I haven't noticed a difference in one being easier to keep clean than the other unless it was a flat top.

I definitely prefer to cook on gas, as I have more control over the heat. However my home is totally electric and I chose a home like that due to the recent increase in gas. We have experienced larger increases that started with deregulation and then the price of oil. So I have managed to adapt to the electric cooking.

Gas. Not sure is this only me or not, but I think that food cooked by electric taste not that good. Food cook by gas will taste better.

I prefer gas, probably because that is what I learned to cook on. I've tried electric and I didn't like it, I forget and leave the pan on the burner. Some of the new electric ranges are really nice looking though.

That's me, I cooked on electric for about 17 months, gas for 19, then back to electric for ten, now I'm back to gas. I haven't decided what I'll use when this stove goes out. I cooked on my daughters flat top for two weeks and I really liked how easy it was to keep it clean. As I get older, I'm more partial to what is easier to maintain and keep clean.

I have had both and definetly prefer the gas to the electric. you are right when you are done cooking you have to move the pan if you are using electric as it will keep cooking.

They are both a pain to clean and keep clean. I really enjoyed using my daughters ceramic flat-top stove when I stayed with her for a couple of weeks. I would be tempted to try one of those next. I've noticed as I get older I look for the easiest route toward cutting back on my cleaning.

I enjoy my ceramic flat top but it isn't as easy to clean as you would think. Wiping it clean is easy but if something burns on the top you have to use cleaner to remove. Kind of similar to waxing a car. It is about $5 per bottle at the supermarket and you have to keep on top of it. My mother in law uses a baking soda/water mixture. I have tried this but still prefer the cleaner better. I think it is easier to use. All in all it really isn't that bad. It makes it shine real nice.

I prefer to cook on electric, not because it is more economical or better to cook with than gas, but because I have an overactive imagination which pictures me: Forgetting to turn off the gas which fills the house with gas which 1.) suffocats all occupants OR 2.) explodes for no known reason, killing all the occupants and burning down the house.

The perfect cooker for me would be a gas hob and an electric oven because Gas for hob cooking because as you say you have complete control of the temperature and if you want to cook properly and quickly you can't beat it. Electric is better for the oven though as you get a more uniform heat and don't get either the top or the bottom burnt like with gas.

I've noticed with my gas broiler I really have to watch what ever it is I'm trying to get brown, it definitely will brown unevenly.

James always complains that when i make something that he really likes that i'll never cook it the same way again,so perfect...not by a long shot. Although i'm glad you enjoy it.

Wow! I thought I was the only one that had this preference! I definitely prefer a gas range, hands down. I have had both and couldn't stand electric. It seemed that the food never cooked evenly on electric.

Electric has a tendency to be tempermental too. When I was first married I used a small electric stove. I had to actually smack the element with a wooden spoon to get it to work. Didn't have enough sence to realize how dangerous and stupid that was at the time.
