Did you know this about aluminum foil?

Someone sent this to me. I didn't know this. Anyway, I've been using aluminum foil for more years than I care to remember. Great stuff, but sometimes it can be a pain. You know, like when you are in the middle of doing something and you try to pull some foil out and the roll comes out of the box. Then you have to put the roll back in the box and start over. The darn roll always comes out at the wrong time. Well, I would like to share this with you. Yesterday I went to throw out an empty Reynolds foil box and for some reason I turned it and looked at the end of the box. And written on the end it said, "Press here to lock end". Right there on the end of the box is a tab to lock the roll in place. How long has this little locking tab been there? I then looked at a generic brand of aluminum foil and it had one, too. I then looked at a box of Saran wrap and it had one too! I can't count the number of times the Saran warp roll has jump ed out when I was trying to cover something up. I IMMEDIATELY PUSHED IN THE TABS... HA, SURE DOES MAKE YOU FEEL STUPID DOESN'T IT...

Thanks for sharing this, but I don't even use aluminum foil. I use plastic wrap because I think that it's easier. Aluminum foil has always been ineffective as far as keeping food fresh goes. At least I think so.

Funny....I wrote about that a week ago. I guess you didn't see my posting. I wonder how long that has been printed on the boxes?

I went and pushed my tabs, too. This is something they should teach in Home Ec. That is, if they still taught Home Ec. which they do not anymore around here.

Those little tabs have been on there for years. It hard to believe you have never noticed them. I have news for all of you ...if you are a yanker like most of us are sometimes, they wont hold. For some reason one of them will come loose. And the ones on the generic boxes are the worse. I have been using these little tabs for such a long time I had forgotten about them. It just became a habit to punch each end of all those type of wraps. They are even on wax paper boxes too.

That is really strange because I have never noticed it before either. I am at my daughter's home right now and as soon as I read the discussion I went to check her saran wrap box and I guess she had figured it out, because she has the tabs pushed in on the box. They say you learn something new everyday, so this is what I learned new today. Thanks for sharing.

I got to quit being so slow. I saw this on another site and my brother sent it to me too. It was great finding this out. I had to go check it out too.

Lol, I've known that for a while, but I still don't use those tabs. I think I am just in the habit of pulling the whole roll out of the box and measuring that way. Saran wrap also has a little button to stick the film to when you are not using it, also. I wonder how many people know about that, too.

I have been using these boxes of foil and Saran wrap for over 30 years and I have never known this. I don't know how long they have been doing this. Right now I don't have any to even go check as I just moved and I have to go shopping tomorrow. But I am going to look and see what it is your talking about. Thanks for this discussion because I wouldn't know look either and I hate it when my roll falls out, as you do.

LMAO.....It wasn't too long ago that I discovered the same thing, after at least 20 years of using the stuff! I'm glad I'm not the only one!

You just made me hve to go on and check this out at my house. However my plastic wrap is a food service size and does not jump out. I bought it the year of the two weddings and will probably be using it for my fiftieth anniversary. I will run go check (thump, thump, thump, sound of running feet). Yep, mine have it too. My daughter probably knows this already as she reads everything that is printed on anything. Thanks.

i didn't know that before, i have had the same kinds of problems that you have had with things like that..i would pull it and the whole role would come out or something like that and it would just get annoying to me and i would just stop doing it all together because i got so bored with it and it just annoyed me because it woudlnt stop doing that...so i really appreciate you telling us that, now i won't have to worry about that anymore..

as long as I was a kid (i am 36 years old) I remember it being there. I was resposible for clearing the table and putting away the food. I learned that trick early on. I am glad, for your sanity's sake you discovered it too

ROFLMAOSHISTC (Rolling On Floor Laughing My Azz Of So Hard I Scared The Cat) After reading this I just had to check... and sure enough... there it was... Duh!!! Question is, why don't they have the same thing on cling wrap?

My cling wrap doesn't have them, I'll have to check the other brands in the store. Hey, at least now I know about the one on the foil though.

The plastic wrap I have has them. I use the store brand though. If the store brand has them on the plastic wrap, the name brands should too. They may not be as noticable.
