Apple Diet

I am wondering how many people on myLot have heard of or have tried the apple diet? It is really as simple as it sounds, you eat nothing but apples, until you have lost the weight that you want to lose. The only other recommendation is to take a tablespoon of olive oil before retiring at night. There is no particular brand of apples, just that every time you get hungry, eat another apple. The claim is that there is something in the apple that helps you to shed the pounds. It takes a certain amount of will power, and some people that tried it gave up in just one day. I find it works well and have lost 10 lbs in four days. I have never tried it for a longer period. I'd appreciate any comments.

My thoughts: -It is unhealthy to lose more than 2 pounds in one week. -Diets don't work... pretty much ever. -If you restrict your diet that much for any period of time and then start to eat "normal" again, you will just gain the weight back more quickly. Basically your body just goes into starvation mode when you don't take in enough calories (only assuming you wouldn't be if you are only eating apples) and it only takes 24-48 hours for this to occur... then when you DO eat more food your body retains the fat quicker. -It is not a good idea to restrict proteins, fats, vitamins... -What are you going to be eating when you go off this diet? -Losing weight is about changing your lifestyle, not just a quick fix. I mean, I guess if you are planning on eating a very healthy, balanced, fruit and veggie heavy diet afterwards, you have a chance of keeping the weight off, but either way you will probably gain a little back right away...

Overall I am just saying I don't get why people want to "diet" so much instead of just sucking it up and changing the way they eat in general, forever. That is really the only way to be truly healthy and it feels so much better.

Hi Molly, I'm inclined to agree with you, because I did gain the weight back fairly quickly. That was about ten years ago and I haven't tried it since. Thank you for responing. Blessings.

I've tried once. I am not really fond of apple. So I gave up in just one day. When I started this apple diet, I had an apple when I get hungry every time, and I found apple become a horrible fruit for me, meanwhile, apple diet is not a health way to lose weight.

Hi kame_w, Thank you for commenting. You are the first person here who told me they have tried this diet. I found that I gained the weight back rather quickly. If you ever decide to try it again, check with your family doctor first. Blessings.

Thank you.I think I will not try it again. Only apples for dinner can not supply the nutrition for our body. What we can do is have a balanced diet and do some exercise.

That sounds like a very unhealthy diet. You need at least some protien on a regular basis to be healthy. Apples don't have a lot of nutrituinal value. Basically, it is very similar to only drinking water and not eating at all, but the sugar in the apple gives you some energy to keep going. The reason you lose weight is because you are basically starving yourself for four days. If you do this too often, you will feel more tired, because your body is trying to not burn calories so it can convert them to fat to store for when you "starve" again. Please, check with a doctor before trying these fad diets, they are usually bad for you in the long run.

Hi theproperator, Thank you for your comments. It has been about ten years since I last tried the diet and found that I gained the weight back rather quickly. I did check with my family doctor before trying it, and would advise anyone to do the same. Blessings.

I personally have never thought any kind of fad diet like this works well. I mean yes it might work for awhile, until as you say you go down to the weight you want, but the problem is, is when you go back to eating regular foods again...you'll wind up gaining all the weight back. My mother always had a battle with weight and when on one crazy diet after another...the broccoli diet, water diet, pineapple diet..sheesh you name it. None of them worked for her

My friend in middle school did this and she lost weight. I eat apples a lot of the time for lunch but i don't eat them for ever meal. I don't think it can be that healthy to do that but i think if you ate more apples and maybe ate them for one meal like lunch a couple times a week you could still lose weight but it would be healthy.

Hi sameroad, Thank you for your comments. You would need to check with your family doctor before trying this, also I gained the weight back fairly quickly. Blessings.

i would not even attempt a diet where you can only eat one food. that is ludicrous and sets you up for failure. i'd have to eat a whole lot of apples to feel satisfied and if i had to guess you probably lose weight because you have diarrhea and can't stop running to the bathroom and i do mean running! this just does not sound healthy or doable.

Hi Mikeysmom, Thank you for your comments. It's certainly not something that I would recommend for a long period of time or to try it often. It does work but I also gained the weight back rather quickly. I did check with my family doctor at the time and would advice anyone to do the same. Blessings.

I have never heard of this as a diet but to me it is worth trying. I have tried a lot of different things and nothing seems to work. I need to lose about fifty pounds to be where I am supposed to be weighing. I will give this a try.

Thanks for your response. I will check with the doctor and see what she says. I do know that it is best to lose the weight slow. Not try a diet that is going to knock the pound off and than when you go off you gain the weight back plus. I have a appointment with my doctor in a week and I will ask her about how to lose weight in a good way.

Hi sunshinelady, Thank you for your comments. Yes, I'm afraid I did gain the weight back again. If you need to lose about fifty pounds, this may not be the diet for you. In any case check with your doctor. Blessings.

Hi Pose123! Really? You lost 10 lbs in 4 days? Wow, that is so great! Now, I am really thinking about this and is considering if I can really get to 4 days at least. If I will lose 10 lbs in 4 days, then I will be very happy. Now, I have to work on my will power to carry this apple diet through. haha..I will be starting this anytime next week. (HOPEFULLY) haha..Thanks for sharing this my friend. I really appreciate this information. Sounds easy yet I know it will be difficult somehow. Take care and God bless!

Hi faith, Before starting the apple diet, be sure you are in good physical health. Also plan a healthy lifestyle for afterwards. If you go back to your old eating habits, you will regain the weight. I didn't suffer any ill affects from the diet, but I didn't go beyond 4 days. I wouldn't suggest more than one week max. My family doctor is fine with it for me as I am in good health, except for the few extra pounds. I wish you good luck with the diet, but if you find it too difficult, just quit. A healthy lifestyle is always the best way to live. Thank you for responding. Blessings.

This doesn't sound very healthy. Okay, so apples are fruit and fruit is good for you, but you aren't getting all the essential nutrients you need from other foods. It doesn't sound like a healthy way to lose weight!

Hi newht351, Thank you for you comments. If your diet is working, even slowly it may be best to stick with it. If you want to try the apple diet, be sure that you are healthy to start with, and have a plan to eat healthy when you stop. I have never gone beyond 4 days at one time. Blessings.

I only heard of eating an apple before a meal. The apple fills you up so much that you won't want to eat much after that. Just living off a single type of food item for a long period of time is not advisable as a too onesided diet causes malnutrition with the respective if not short term then long term consequences.

Oh Really? this is the first time I heard this that apples can lose weight. Oh!! this is a good information if this is true. Well, I heard that apple is good for the heart. There was even a saying that says, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, this means that apple is really good for health. Amd now good for losing extra pounds? that's good.

Hi celestial, Thank you for responding. I haven't tried this diet for about ten years now, and I did check with my family doctor at the time. The problem for me was that I gained the weight back again fairly quickly. It could work if you were careful to follow a strict diet later, or if you needed to lose weight fast. Blessings.

I have tried for one day ,however,I think it is not very good! After the trying of apple diet that time ,I never want to eat any apple! I think the best diet is making more sports, eat less foods, besides you could insist on doing that for at least one month!

Yes I've heard of apple diet program. They offer $25 for Signup They give you a free site to develop and attract people. You submit your developed site to get approved. After approval you have to make sales and you get rewards for your sales.

..likely would end up as a sort of purge too.. if your calories go too low, a person's metabolism slows waay down, then when you eat regularly the body stores every calorie thinking it will soon be starving again.. And so lots of people have put on lots of weight doing 'starvation diets' which is a diet below 1500 calories a day (though they are changing that to 1200, but that could be a mistake). I think most experts have come to the conclusion that the only thing that works and becomes longterm is to eat a little less and also be a bit more active... fruits, veggies, whole grains..

Hi subha, Thank you for responding. I tried the diet, I think it was three or maybe four times, never more than four days at a time. The last time was nearly 10 years ago. I did not get sick, but gained most of the weight back again. I discussed it with my family doctor, and he was okay with it, but suggested no more than four days at a time. I have always been in good physical health except for the 20 to 30 extra pounds. Blessings.

Wow, ten pounds in four days. I think the reason you can lose that much weight is not that you are losing fat, but you are cleansing your body, as in too much fruit just gives a person diaria. That is a known medical fact. I couldn't live on just apples and would be hungry all the time. I don't think this is a diet for most people and I don't think it can be too healthy.

Hi chrislotz, Thank you for your comments. I had no ill affects, but found that the weight comes back easily. I checked but my family doctor before beginning the diet, and didn't go more than 4 days. I would not suggest doing it for more than one week max. If one wants to keep off the weight, we would have to adopt a healthy lifestyle. Blessings.

The apple is basically fiber. It is not a healthy diet as others have told you. You will gain the weight back. It is just another fad diet. There is nothing in the apple to help shed pounds. It is such a light weight and low cal fruit and full of fiber that your body can burn it up quickly. Apples are good to add to a diet, but, not a good idea to eat only apples. God bless you. Just try cutting back on food. But, eath healthy.

I don't think this is diet is a very good idea. You will get sick of eating just apples.. and there's really not much variety in the apple industry. There's only so much things you can do with JUST an apple. Good luck with your weightloss, and i hope you don't get sick from this diet.
