The chickens really DID cross the road!

I couldn't help myself....I just had to share this with you. And it's really true too. I was sitting at a stop light in town, waiting for it to change. It's at an intersection that is very popular for people dropping off, of all things, chickens! I had my window down, and for once I didn't have my stereo blasting. I heard the chirping of the crosswalk sign (I've been told that it is for people who can't see well to cross the street and they can follow the sound of the chirping). Next thing I know, there are two hens, a rooster and a couple of chicks crossing in front of me IN the crosswalk! I couldn't believe my eyes. And they didn't veer from the crosswalk one single step. There were a lot of cars at the intersection, and even when the light changed we all just sat there waiting for them to get all the way across. It was absolutely hilarious. And of all the times for me to not even have my cell phone camera with me! Have any of you ever witnessed something like this? Please share. Hugs to everyone.............Carryl

awee pal I wish I could have seen that , we were out for a drive one day near loch Lomond and a pheasant jumped off a fence and started to cross the road , we stopped and watched it , then about 100 yards up the road his mate ( well we like to think it was ) did the same thing , Hubby opened the window and shouted out " your hubby is just up the road" lol we talk about it often , xx

LOL! Either way, that would have been just too funny to see and hear your hubby yell that out. That sounds like something my hubby would do. LOL!

Sounds like it would have been a lovely sight. I was wanting to photograph my animals being particularly cute. The battery in my camera was too low!!!

Don't you hate when that happens? I'm sure that if I had had my camera with me, the same thing would have happened to me. LOL

LOL Now that does give new meaning to 'Why did the chicken cross the road?' Too funny and cute. lol Other than the coyote that looked b4 crossing the highway in my one discussion, I haven't witnessed anything like that.

This is really interesting news. I guess the cars stopped to view the amazing sight. Any human leading the flock?

Nope, no human leading them at all. That was the biggest amazement. They did it all by themselves.

Now that was something to be seen.... We were driving in Florida one year and as we stopped for the light...5 dogs of various breeds and sizes crossed infront of us in the crosswalk. The littlest one was in the front and they were all lined up by size..I couldn't believe it....They were all by themselves....I was like...you have got to be kidding...LOL

Your lucky to have seen that it's to bad you didn't have your cellphone camera with you that would have been a cute pic to post. We all i'm sure feel like you do at one time or another and wish we had one on us at that time and moment. I only saw a mother duck and her ducklings 3 of them crossing a road but wasn't like no intersection like you saw the ones you saw. They are so funny to watch takeing their sweet old time waddling across the street and babbling in duck language to eachother. I hope you get pictures next time this happens if it ever does for you.

I love watching ducks waddling around like that in a big bunch. To me they seem like a group of little old ladies chatting up a storm. LOL! Thanks for the great response hon.

That would be a beautiful sight to see for sure. I think a lot of animals are getting so used to humans that they aren't so afraid anymore. Thanks so much hon.

The funniest thing I ever saw while driving along a country road, was a chicken running along in the field. The faster I went, the faster the chicken ran. Then I noticed it had 3 legs. This was different, and I had to know more about that chicken so I drove up to the Farm House to ask the Farmer. He told me what he fed them, and how long he had been raising them, and when I asked him if they were good to eat he replied," I don't know! I've never been able to catch one!"

ROFL! That is too funny! I guess that third leg gives them extra "oomph" to run faster. LOL! Thanks for the great response.

haha that is too funny katlady! I think the closest I came to seeing birds crossing the street was when I was working an evening shift and we were feeding the residents because I work in a nursing home and I looked out the window and seen a family of ducks all in a line walking across the street it was so cute. Another time at work there was a family of chicks and the mother hen walking around with her babies just in the back of the building. Yesterday morning I started up my computer when all the sudden a cow comes walking across my front yard. It freaked me out! lol. I've never in my whole life seen that before and that cow looked like it was on a mission so it wasn't like I was going to try and stop it haha. It's too bad you didn't have your camera when you seen those chickens cross the road

Canadian Geese - We see them everywhere here, especially in our metro parks like this one.
Our city is crawling - or should I say waddling? - with Canadian Geese. They often stop traffic to cross the road. In the spring they have a whole train of gosling following them. The other day we saw five or six geese with dozens of gosling. It was startling to see so many of them together.

Oh how funny! What a picture that would make. In one of the towns about 45 minutes away, there are a lot of geese, swans and ducks because there is a decent sized man made lake with a park around it. So there are lots of incidents with them crossing the roads at times. Fortunately they are smart enough to stick to the quiet neighborhood streets instead of the busy ones. Thanks hon.

That's hysterical! I can just picture this happening and you sitting there in your car watching the whole thing. Too bad you didn't have a camera is right. I would have loved to have seen this. Do you live in a farm area? Is that why they have hens and a rooster crossing the street? Thanks for the chuckle.

We are surrounded by farm land as a matter of fact. So we get to see all sorts of critters roaming around the countryside. Chickens are the most "popular" though. LOL Thanks hon.

Momma Mallards walking With Her Babies - Black and white photo of a mother mallard with her chicks
aww...that's a shame you didn't have your cell phone camera..Well no I never quite saw anything like that of chickens crossing a road, particularly a busy intersection, but the closest I got was years, and years ago when I was at this large park, Flushing Meadow, and a momma mallard was walking along and in front of her were her "babies" And yes,was lucky to have my camera with me..this is a black and white photo of them

Awwww....that photo is adorable. I've actually had a very large goose cross the road to my car and stick her head in the window. I had stopped so she could cross and she just invited herself on over. I think she must have smelled my sandwich, so I had to share some of the bread with her to make her happy. LOL

There are signs in some places in the hilly areas of Wyoming warning people of deer jumping across the road, not walking' mind you . this is what happened to us. we were driving past newcastle wyoming when we slowed for the sign and looked up. the deer were on a hill side and were running towards our' car, then they leaped , sailed over our car and landed on the other side of the highway, safe and running towards a lush grassy field with wild flowers gleaming. sometimes the poor deer do not make it and die, other times they hit the motorists car and make a lot of damage. lol.

I've had that happen to me. It's so strange to see deer hoofs sailing over the TOP of the car. Fortunately I was stopped because I had seen a fawn on the side of the road. Then the rest of the family decided to show up and jump my small car. Amazing but a bit scary. Thanks hon.
