Funerals and Police Escort

I had my first run in with a funeral procession on a four lane highway. I was unfamiliar with the proceedures and did like others around me, but there were some on my side that still continued to drive.
So do you stop for such on a four lane highway?

The laws regarding this vary by state and I don't think many address the 'oncoming traffic on a four lane highway' issue.

I think it should be addressed then because it is very confusing and like pointed out above, very likely to cause accidents.
