Question for You Bloggers

I'm using blogger.com and it seems to be relatively easy to maneuver and works well for my needs. I have a variety of blog topics listed on my profile, and when looking at one of them recently, I noticed I had two comments. Apparently I didn't have the email notification turned on so I didn't even know that anyone took the time to comment, so I've since fixed that and will be notified of any new comments. My question is, how do you acknowledge to someone that you know they left you a comment? I can click to read the comment and if it's someone that has a blogger account, I can click their name or avatar and it will bring me to their profile, but then what? The only thing I can see is to leave a comment on their blog, but what if they don't have anything to do with each other? I'd really like to be courteous and respond to the comments left to me, but I'm not sure how to go about that. Is there something very basic that I'm not seeing here? (If you want to see what I'm talking about, click on the link on my profile here to see my list of blogs. The comments I'm speaking of are in the blog 'Click Click Click')

When they leave a comment for you, they have the option to have any follow-up comments sent to their email...or not. If they don't select the option to be notified, there is no way for you to make sure they know you commented back to them.

Thank you! So now I can leave a comment on my blog right below their comment, and if they wanted to know if/when I responded, they should have checked the block. I guess that leaves it in their hands. I will comment to each from now on and hope that they did check the block!

I'm going to your blog in a minute, but wanted to answer while I was here. I appreciate any kind of comment, a good morning is fine for me. I really like knowing who visited so I can return the visit. Sometimes I just leave I comment that I enjoyed their blog or something like that. I like to help other bloggers as much as I can and hope that will bring me some good karma.

I see your comment, Sherry, but the only thing I can figure is to leave my own comment below it, but that does no good unless you come back to view my blog again.

True, but leaving a comment about what you said on mine, on a totally unrelated blog makes no sense to me. I like things to make sense!

Hi, I have 2 blogger blogs. When people leave comments for me, I respond to their comments directly on my blog. My blogs are for my artwork. For example, when someone comments on a painting, I post a response to their response by posting a comment, on my blog, thanking them for stopping by. *I don't always have the time to reciprocate and look at their blogs, unfortunately. I am not sure that I conveyed the information above, clearly. If I didn't convey the info clearly, please let me know and I will try to help you further. I didn't have any caffeine yet this morning. ;)

People who have very successful blogs, do as I suggested. I belong to a e-groups for art business and what I suggested doing is what most bloggers do. And successful bloggers actually generate discussions on their blogs this way. It's rather interesting. :) I do my best to reciprocate by visiting the blogs of those who visit my own, but sometimes I just don't have a sincere and pleasant response to make to make! I really like to be sincere, so I'd prefer not to comment on a blog, if I have nothing positive to say. :)

I understand exactly what you're saying, and I really don't see any other option. Sherry, above, posted to my blog and that's what I did. If she goes back she will see it, but I don't see any way to notify someone that you've commented back. Maybe that's a suggestion I could make to blogger?

I can see that *above31rubies has already answered this question to the best that Blogger Currently supports or allows ordinarily. Nonetheless, I want to point out that, I think many people making comments are aware of this check box, they probably are trying not to increase the amount of emails they would have to manage daily. I for instance, if notifications for all the comments I made on blogs are to be added to the amount of emails I have to handle from my 2 Yahoomails and 2 Gmails, I'm sure I'll end up deleting many of them without even reading the subject let alone the contents. So, basically I personally only indicate a followup notification massage on blogs that I have a mutual relationship with, for instance like those I'm exchanging links with. But, one think I never forget, is to bookmark the blog, aaahh! here I have a large gallery of bookmarks

Thanks for your input. My problem is I do want to acknowledge the comment, but if they don't know that I have, there's not much I can do about it. I guess I'll just comment on my own and let it go. If they have a blog that I find interesting, I may comment there strictly on the basis of that particular blog, but it won't have anything to do with the comment they left on mine.

I think it would be better if you comment too on one or more of his/her posts and in her site, you could search for the link where s/he can be contacted... Like the list of email or messenger or other sites so that you can personally thank her for the comment. :D I do that sometimes whenever I have time..:)

That's a good point! I'll keep that in mind if it happens again. Even if they don't have a blog that I really care to comment on, they may have another form of contact listed. Thank you!

Thanks because you had my post helpful! :D How come they come across you anyway? The people wandering around my blog usually comes whenever he or she is blog hopping through a network of contacts. :) Anyway, can we exchange links of blogs so that I could visit yours sometime? :D

I'm not sure what you mean. I'm talking about a blog on blogger.com, and there is no 'friend' option.

I've included all the information as I know it. Where you see payment proofs, they are most certainly real payment proofs of my very own.

I usually leave a comment back at my blog and also take sometime to visit the blog of my fellow blogger and offer some comments, if relevant. If the blog is interesting and close to my field of study - I visit it later as well.

Hi, I use blogger too for one of my blogs. But my hosted blog is a Wordpress blog. I think blogger is very user-friendly but I find it hard tweaking the site designs because I do not know much about CCS. :)
