The discussion that listening to Mozart increases your IQ level has been met with varying responses.Do you think this could be true?I would like to believe that it does do something to your thought pattern, what do you think?

There are actually proofs and I have seen many tv programs about it. There was also an album released by Reader's Digest entitled Music for Listening, because our brain is mostly tuned to melody that's why (classical) music helps us retain things and thoughts in our mind. I have actually seen the Born Genius (as far as I remember) from National Geographic Channel, and other tv programs that showcased things about being intelligent and knowledgeable.. One of the people I remember being smart is the child prodigy Shaira Luna and Mark Yu :) their mother used to listen to classical music frequently while she was still conceiving her baby. In the TV program, it has been told that melody is the prime thing our brains can retain. That is why if you want your child to be a prodigy, you should engage yourself with lots and lots of classical music. :D

Thanks K8cath,this is some interesting information. I believe music plays a part too. I can only imagine the effect it can have on an infant when it can move adults

i also heard that news.. its good for a baby to hear that kind of music, and i know few who would give Mozart cds as a gift to mothers who just had a baby... they say its healthy for the baby's mind.

yes I think so too! I have actually watched different shows telling viewers on what the proud parents of child prodigies actually did while they were still conceiving their precious beloved young offspring. :) They included eating peanuts and I can't even remember why! :)

I don't know about any actual proof but it seems right to me. I think that listening to symphonic music (not just Mozart and not only the stuff composed in the Classical period) generally has a corrolation with intellegence. I don't know if the music causes the intellegence or the intellegence causes more enjoyment to be gained from the music. I do think that symphonic stuff has a bit more variety and would therefore stimulate the brain more than some other genres, especially dance music with its repetitive overwhelming *DOEF* *DOEF* *DOEF* *DOEF*.

a few years ago, i've heard of studies about this. apparently, listening to these classical music (not just Mozart's) gradually "helps" increase the IQ. the music isn't exactly the cause of the increase, but instead, its the effect of the music that does. listening to classical music relaxes the brain. this helps the brain assimilate more knowledge, and thus, helps increase the IQ of a person.

If music affects your IQ, then I can easily understand why rappers are so "intelligent"

I think that would be a myth propagated by those arty farty types so that others may come to think that classic music is other than boring. I think Mozart might raise your snooze factor though.
