How Jesus and other Biblical Prophets prayed ?

Islam is the only religion which is not named after a people, a place, or an individual. It is the religion of all of the prophets including Noah, Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus, and Muhammad (peace be upon them all), to name a few. Islam is not a new religion. Literally meaning "submission to the Will of God", This is Why we Call Every submission to the Will of God before Muhammad as Islam. The Muslim practice of standing, bowing, kneeling, and prostrating in worship is not foreign to past traditions. While many Christians and Jews find images of Muslims in prayer to be peaceful or even awe-inspiring, some find the Muslim method of prayer to be odd. When Muslims pray, they do so in a manner taught by Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the Last Prophet sent by God and the only prophet sent to all of humanity. His words, his actions, and the events of which he approved or disapproved have all been preserved in numerous volumes, called Ahadith. It is important to note that these volumes are kept separate from the revealed word of God, the Qur’an. It is from the Ahadith that Muslims derive their model for how to live, love, work, raise children, eat, give charity, greet each other, pray, etc. The point, here, is that after having received the command from God to pray, Muslims look to the example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) to learn how to pray. Were Christians and Jews to look to the examples of the prophets (peace be upon them all) given in the Torah and the Gospel, then they would find themselves praying like Muslims. Here’s proof... [Genesis 17:1-4] And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the Lord appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me and be thou perfect. 2) And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. 3) And Abram FELL ON HIS FACE: and God talked with him, saying, 4) As for Me, behold, My covenant is with thee, and thou shalt be a father of many nations. [Deuteronomy 5:6-9] I am the Lord thy God, which brought thee out of Egypt, from the house of bondage. 7) Thou shalt have none other gods before Me. 8) Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: 9) Thou shalt not BOW DOWN thyself unto them nor serve them... it is very Clear that God is instructing people not to "bow down" to idols, means that bowing is a valid form of worship. [Psalm 95:6] O come, let us worship and BOW DOWN: let us kneel before the Lord our Maker. [Revelations 7:11-12] And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and FELL BEFORE TE THRONE ON THEIR FACES, and worshiped God, 12) Saying, Amen: Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen. [Numbers 16:20-22] And the Lord spake unto Moses and Aaron, saying, 21 Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment. 22 And they FELL UPON THEIR FACES, and said, O God, the God of spirits of all flesh, shall one man sin, and wilt Thou be wroth with the all of the congregation? Also in [Numbers 20:6] [Joshua 7:6-7] And Joshua rent his clothes, and FELL TO THE EARTH UPON HIS FACE before the ark of the Lord until eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads. 7) And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord God, wherefore hast Thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan! Thus far, we have read that Moses, Joshua, Aaron, and Abraham (peace be upon them all) worshiped the One True God through prostration and bowing. The angels did the same. And in Matthew 26:39 Prophet Jesus (peace be upon him) also puts his face to the ground in humility before God. [Matthew 26:36-39] Then cometh JESUS with them unto a place called Gesthemane, and saith unto his disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. 37) And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be very sorrowful and heavy. 38) Then saith he unto them, my soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here, and watch with me. 39) And he went a little farther, and FELL ON HIS FACE, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou Wilt. http://www.islamawareness.net/Christianity/bible_prayer.html We must realize that human beings chosen by God to bring God's message are the best of human beings. To not follow their lead is illogical and arrogant. Bow down and prostrate to God and ask for guidance. It is God, alone, who can guide us. and if you follow them, you will find yourself pray like Muslims So, what do you think ?

Gordano, You always impress me by your nice writings. In fact we find lot of similarities in all the religions which show that they have the same origin OR there was only one religion since the very beginning of mankind as the Holy Quran says.In fact the people who came after their Prophets had changed it to suit their selfish motives. Please keep writing such topics for our knowledge. Thanks and regards.

I always thought of prayers as a conversation between us & Jesus... Just as Jesus carried all our sins for us so that we stand clean in front of God, when we pray to Jesus, he hears us & prays, talks to, God for us... Didn't Jesus say, "Only way to my Father's house is through Me...!!" Or something very close to it? For that, I pray to Jesus & have my faith in him that he alone is my savior & my salvation...

I think they should pray like Muslim. After all, its prayer to God Almighty. Why they don't prostrate like their prophets did? Who they follow actually?

I don't have a religion, but religions have always fascinated me. Really, anything connected to culture, from the original mythology to the mannerisms to the religion and everything else has always fascinated me. I feel that religion and spirituality is a very personal matter, and prayer (the means of feeling truly connected in many cases) is especially important to certain religions. But I think that there are positively billions of ways to pray. Whatever brings an individual closer to peace is the "right" way in my mind. I've found the similarities between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam to be equally fascinating and silly. Fascinating because of the similarities and silly because some people are willing to kill over the differences.

I Feel Sorry For Those who are willing to kill over the differences. and for me, I know That The Holy Quran Clearly stated: [002:256] "Let there be no compulsion in religion..." for more about the Point: http://www.islamtoday.com/showme2.cfm?cat_id=29&sub_cat_id=607 Let's "Pray" For Them, But How? That Take us Back to The Topic :)

@Gordano: What's bowing before God got to do with Islam. Its not exclusive to Islam. Its common tradition among Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists etc. Even tribal people practicing paganism bow down in front of God. They weren't taught this method by any of the prophets(don't take it as insult). It is common to bend or bow before someone older and wiser to pay respect and God is the oldest and wisest of all beings. Secondly, you said in Islam there is no compulsion. So, why are you insisting people to bow or bend in front of God. This simply counteracts your first point.

No, I didn't take it as insult, However, I Think That Hindus, Sikhs, Janis, Buddhists etc. Even tribal people practicing paganism, are in a Better situation than unthinking obedient servants who used to Think they all the "wicked among the righteous" will be saved while Others will go to Hell. and Secondly, What in The Earth make Someone Think that discussing about religions is insisting people ?

and you quoted in the new testament.. ^_^ how awesome.. you still believe in the old covenant.. ^_^ since you quoted in the new testament.. see this.. ^_^ Hebrews 10:9-10 He sets aside the first to establish the second. And by that will, we have been made holy through the sacrifice of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. ^_^ and the old covenant that you adore: Hebrews 10:8 First he said, "Sacrifices and offerings, burnt offerings and sin offerings you did not desire, nor were you pleased with them" (although the law required them to be made). thats the first covenant.. they have to do the offerings to cover their sins.. but thats impossible.. see this.. Hebrews 10:3 But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins, because it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. then how can we be save? since for all have sin and fall short in the Glory of God (Romans 3:23) trough prophet Mohammad who follows the old covenant..?? obviously not.. as Hebrews 10 views... ^_^ it is only trough Christ.. since He is the Only way the Truth and the Life no ones comes to the Father except trough Him (John 14:6).. ^_^

I don't know much about Islam/Muslim belief. I do believe in bowing to pray, but I feel you can pray at any time, any where and any way. But bowing to God the Father shows one being humble. I don't pray to the prophets, but I don't thank God for them because they gave us examples of how to live and sometimes not to live. I believe in 1 God and Jesus Christ his is son and we are to show them reference. (God the Father and Jesus Christ the son and the Holy Spirit.) I will not argue with people about their belief, but I do pray for them.
