My daughter turned two yesterday. I was just curious as to what age is appropriate for a toddler bed? I would really like to get her one but I don't want it to be too early.

Happy birthday to your daughter. We never got a toddler bed for my daughter. She was around 18 months when she started climbing out of her crib. a few days later we went shopping and got her a twin bed. We put the guard rail on it, and called it a day. That worked for us. She has been in that bed ever since. We took the guard rail off last year. It saved us some money too. Only one purchase instead of 2.

that sounds like a good idea. There is a day bed in her room. When it's time for bed she likes me to lay with her in the bed and then she will point to the crib when she is ready to lay down by herself. Then I will stay in the daybed for a few minutes and then give her a kiss and leave the room. I am jsut afraid she won't stay in the bed but I never thought about the guardrail.

My son was about 14 months, he started climbing out of the crib, let me put it another way, he would sit on the side rail, stand-up, then jump off the side rail. That day, he went from crib to bed. The key things are - if your child is climbing out of the crib or they are so crowded in the crib that they turn over and wake themselves up. I have heard of people keeping their kids in the crib until 4 or 5, I think that is way too old.

I bought my son his toddler bed when he had just turned 2 years old. He never learned to climb out of his crib. He was never in it enough to learn. My daughter is 16 months old and so far she is still in her crib. She has been climbing out every time I put her in there though, so I will probably get the toddler bed out of the basement soon and stick her in it.

At two, she is certainly old enough for a toddler bed. We, like another poster, never actually used a toddler bed. Our son went into a regular bed at about 15 months. He was quite the monkey and was climbing out of his crib nearly every night. Our daughter went into a regular bed at about 18 months. She took after her brother as far as the monkey business went.
