I Dont Beleive It.

United States

Okay so what is with all this beliefs that Friday the 13th will bring bad luck? I mean I dont beleive it as I have never had anything happen to me on this dreaded date. I am in no ways superstitious. I own a black cat and have broken many mirrors. And yet i have yet to see this bad luck that I will get. So my questions are what is the reasoning behind the fears of Friday the 13th and what others have you heard of?

I don't know where Friday the 13th. came from but I do know that the number 13 has traditionally been thought of as a bad number. Many buildings don't have a 13th. floor for that very reason. I don't believe in any of that stuff either.

I got married on Friday the 13th. It was in February and it was really nice outside that day in the 50's for a winter month! I do not think Friday the 13th is bad luck. My cousin was born on Friday the 13th too. I don't know why some think it is bad luck.

I think 13 is considered unlucky because there were 13 people at the last supper and it was not lucky for Jesus, or for Judas. Friday is also considered an unlucky day and is probably also related to the crucifixion. I don't believe in bad luck. If someone thinks they are unlucky then it is in their mind that they never have good luck and they always fear the worse. They focus on bad things that happen and don't see opportunities for making life better. People who think they are lucky will prosper because they are prepared to take a chance, believing it will turn out well, so it usually does.

I agree and i think if you get some bad your way you have to find the ways to turn it around. Only you can control your life.

No, me neither. That day just comes just as any other day does. Not unless someone decides to make something bad happen. Then, it would be a different story.

It's all that movie "Friday the 13th" which got this thing going around. It's about a murderer or something slaying all these people blah blah blah. People get scared worried that it's a bad day. Other then that I say it's the movie's fault. -Sound

I used to love watching those movies. if you beleived movies could run into your life youd never be able to leave the house. I mean just looking at horror movies even your own house wouldnt be safe.

I guess I could be the devils advocate and bring to your attention that if you HADN'T broken the mirrors or owned a black cat then things would be BETTER for you.... But, you're right, it's just another day. Of course my sister always had problems on Thursday the 12th. The last time I remember was when her (now x) husband totalled their car with the baby and the toddler in the car. Everyone was fine, but it sure was a horrible day.

Things did happen to her on the Thursday the 12th for the longest time, but I think after that they stopped. I know she still "dreads" it though.

I had a pretty bad car accident on a Friday the 13th. I wrecked a beautiful thunderbird that belonged to my son. Since then I have played Friday the 13ths rather low keyed. I stay at home if I can, and I do not make any major plans or decisions....LMAO I know its silly and the accident was coincidental, but I am one that does not tempt fate if I can help it.

Trust me my husband and my son was very very unhappy! At least no one was hurt badly. I was pretty banged up but nothing broken and the people in the truck were about the same... there were two children in the back of the extended cab and they were in child seats and did not suffer even a scratch... Oh but the car was totaled. It was sharp too.... I was a bit timid of driving for awhile Minnie.

Hello minnie, I have not heard bad luck about Friday the 13th but I heard about breaking mirrors is like 7 years bad luck..LOL, I was very scared when I broke one and I never consider the following 7 years after that as bad luck for me. IN fact, those times, I got so much accomplishments in my College years.Friday the 13th in our City is very famous for those who have devotions of once saint for catholic, a particular church will gather a lot of crowd from 4 am down to 11 pm every month!

Firstly as far as I am concerned there is no such thing as luck and secondly I also hate when people say Friday the 13th is bad luck because I was born on the 13 of August and occasionally my birthday will fall on a Friday so I TOTALLY RECENT THAT REMARK!! People seriously need to stop saying that.

Friday the 13th - Superstitiously an unlucky day!
I can have bad luck just as well on Monday the 1st or Thursday the 22nd.My son was born on Wednesday,October 13th and his birthday has fallen on Friday the 13th three times and he has never had a problem with it.His daughter,my granddaughter was born on November 13th.It was not a Friday, but I know that her birthday will land on several Friday the 13th's.We owned 2 black cats. My grandmother was very superstitious.Iam not,but when I see a ladder I will tell my daughter not to walk under it or becareful with the mirror, just joking.

I think it has something about the thirteen being around at the Lord's Supper, Jesus and the twelve making up thirteen and you know that Judas Iscariot betrayed Jesus. Now when Jesus had been crucified, it was on a Friday, so the combination of Friday the thirteenth seemed to be a portent of bad luck. There may be other reasons for Friday the 13th but that seems to be the most logical.

Alot have listed that as the reason along with people wanting to beleive its a bad day as well.

I'm not sure where the Friday the 13th superstition started but I can think of a couple other bad luck superstitions, none of which I have ever believed in. One is walking under an open ladder. Haven't heard that one for a long time. My kids used to talk about "splitting a pole" and I had no idea what they were talking about. That is when you are walking along and everyone but one walks on one side of a pole and that other person walks on the opposite side. Pennies being heads up when you pick them up off the ground is considered GOOD LUCK and I had heard that if they are tails up you should leave them lay as they are bad luck. Spilling salt is bad luck unless you throw some over your shoulder, but I can't remember whether it is the left or the right. The most fun I ever had with Friday the 13th was teaching school and the stories that the students brought with them on that day, but I can't remember a one of them...........but April Fool's Day was much worse!!

I have heard the pole splitting one too. And the penny one but as a kid it was just see a penny pick it up all day long youll have good luck.

Hi minnie_98214! I really don't know where it originated nor have any reasons to fear that day. I have been aware of it but never believed it in either. I know that bad luck knows no day when it will strike or hit you. haha..because if it does comes on Friday the 13th, I would rather sleep the whole day and just wake up on the 14th. haha.. Take care and have a wonderful day!

Well,I don't totally believe these things. These are just some believes that some people hold. They have their opinions, and we should hold our opinions.Everythig is possible,so we can not say something must be true.In my country, the number 7 is a bad number, because it represents being angry. With this opinion, people usually don't like to use it such as in the phone numbers. But there are so many 7s in my phone numbers, while I am very happy every day.So.you see, just like you.o(n_n)o...
