WASHINGTON - John McCain said Democratic rival Barack Obama is bad for business in a speech to small business owners. McCain said Tuesday that Obama's policies would mean higher taxes and higher overhead costs. The Republican presidential nominee-in-waiting also criticized Obama for pledging to renegotiate the North American Free Trade Agreement. McCain said small businesses make the economy run and that his Democratic rival would slow the creation of new jobs. "You work hard in small businesses to grow and create new jobs and opportunities for others," McCain said. "The federal government shouldn't make your work any harder." Economic issues have taken center stage in the early presidential race. Obama argues that McCain's policies are no different from those of President Bush, and he blames those policies for the slumping economy. Obama has pledged to end the Bush administration's tax cuts for upper-income workers and has called for new taxes on oil companies and wealthy individuals, along with $1,000 tax cuts for the middle class tax. McCain said small businesses would bear the brunt of the tax increases proposed by Obama. McCain called for phasing out the alternative minimum tax and allowing businesses to write off some new investments. "I don't want to send any more of your earnings to the government," the Arizona senator said. McCain, who was introduced by eBay Inc. CEO Meg Whitman, was briefly interrupted by protesters who yelled that war is bad for small business. The protesters were booed, and McCain used the interruptions to call for a civil debate in the campaign. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080610/ap_on_el_pr/mccain_business I heard this when his candidacy first started and if he gets in everyone who owns a small business will be in trouble. 60% tax on small businesses, how will you pay for your supplies or employees???

McCain is trying to scare people into believing the democrats are going to take your money. Too bad the Republicans already used it to fund their war. They haven't used it to help the American people where we need it most, it's gone to war. No wonder the Democrats need to raise taxes, everything else has been neglected, and all our money has been spent.... The US is in Mega Debt...

Yes we are in debt, but OBAMA IS BAD NEWS FOR EVERYONE IN THE US! Do your homework! Read his book! It is there! I have heard this from the beginning and people are talking about it on the radio also! He is not going to make things easy for anyone, he is only going to make them a lot worse!

"I have heard this from the beginning and people are talking about it on the radio also! He is not going to make things easy for anyone, he is only going to make them a lot worse!" Who's talking about it on the radio? Let me guess - Rush Limbaugh and his mind-numb robot followers, right? Annie

I don't listen to Rush Limbaugh! There are other things on the radio. There are morning talk shows and evening talk shows on the radio and all of them make good points about OBAMA! He has lied about everything he wants to do and if he is elected, everyone who voted for him will be crying why did they elect him! He will bring us to an all time low! He can't end the war in 90 days like he says! That is an all out LIE!!

Was this whole post copied and pasted with the possible exception of the last sentence? Just curious... I think you may have helped Obama sell a few books here in this discussion, which I don't think was really your intention. Considering how our economy sucks right now and McCain intends to continue Bush's policies it's hard to imagine things getting worse if Obama were elected. Obama will give tax cuts to small businesses, in case you hadn't heard or read that which is unlikely. Annie

Vote for who you want, it isn't a racial race! It's a political race and just by you saying that, that proves a lot of points that people are voting for OBAMA just because of his color of skin and not because of the political points!

Annie I appreciate you. Lol about the book selling thing, I am an Obama supporter and I'd have to say his suggestion sounded really good to me :) People need to open their eyes and listen to the "facts" (and their sources) McCain says Obama, Obama says McCain, OF COURSE THEY DO~!!!! THey are in opposition, they are campaigning AGAINST EACH OTHER!!!! Listen to them individually and hear what they say about their ideas.... People, GET OVER IT, he's black and I'm voting for him!

Small business will be forced to cut their business in order to get beneath the income bracket in order to survive. And they will close down if they can not do this and still have a business because they do not have the capability that large companies have to simply move their company out of the U.S. But you can't tell an Obama supporter that, they just don't listen to reason.
