How long do you think you should be together before you get married. How long is to long? Do you think it's okay just to live together?

My husband and I met in December 1976 and started dating in March 1997 and got married in September 1977. We have been married almost 31 years. We did not know each other a year and I was pregnant before marriage. Everyone knew it would not last, it might not we are young still. Hahahaha. I am 49 and he is 53 so we could be married for a long time more. I feel marriage takes a lot of work and commitment only you can say for sure if the time is right. You have to think with your head and not your heat. I was thinking with my heart. It had not been an easy 31 years. I have had to put up with a lot of crap and so has he. I feel marriage is not something you take lightly. Most of my relatives have been married and divorced once or more so I decided when we got married we where going to stick. He has not gone out on me, abused me or the children so the other things are minor. We have our daily frustrations to deal with. He has had a stroke and has short term memory problems so I get frustrated with him because I have had to be on him every minute to remind him of things. I am not his mother but I have had to start to be. Good luck

You should be together at least a year, then you will know all of each others bad habits and quirks. Marriage is nice, but living together is nice too. Only the two of you can decide if marriage is the way to go. If things are great just living together then why spoil it with marriage?
