Casinos? Been to one?

Someone just responded in a discussion that with fun money she would go to a casino. Now, I have never been to a casino, mainly because I can't afford it. But even if I could afford it, I don't think I would go. I am rather conservative and I just could not stand to lose my hard earned money. Some day I may change my mind about it that but not right now. So, have you been to a casino? What did you like about them? If not, would you like to go to one? Why or why not?

I go on thaverage of once a month. I win some and I lose some. I look at it as a form of entertainment. I also love the perks I get from the casino. Free rooms, free cash, free buffets, concert tickets, mugs, glasses, and other free things for the house.I don't spend money I don't have though. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I must admit, I have seen some of your posts and your freebies do sound nice. It sounds like they make it lucrative for you to come. I thought they only did that for the high rollers, Are you holding out on us?

First off you can't go in there with the attitude about losing money. I don't loose money, I spend it. I only spend money that I can afford to spend. If you go out to the movies, or to dinner, or any place else, you end up spending money. I am a cheap gambler, I like playing the penny slots and the nickle machines. Plus you might hit the jackpot. I have fun going to the casino.

Yep, thats why they call it gambling. We all have the mentality that one more pull will be the magic. At least we hope so. Some people do have some big problems with gambling.

That is true, I guess if you only take the money that you would spend else where, but do you ever find yourself in the mentality of one more pull, maybe getting more money because you are due to win? It does sound lie you have a good healthy attitude about gambling. Unfortunately, I know a few compulsive gamblers and I must admit, that scares me.

Every few years I'm able to go to a casino and I'm glad that I make sure I only play with the amount of money I can afford to lose; as if there's any amount that a person can afford to lose...It's usually about $100 or less. I think it's exciting and when you win big it's a real rush...but you have to be so very careful that you don't get addicted like some of my husband's family members are.

I know what you mean. I can see how a person could get hooked, especially when you win big. What I try to do is when I win something I'll put half of the winnings away and play with what's left. If I win again I do the same. When my initial monies are gone I walk away.

You seem to have the same fears I do...getting hooked. You only bring the money you can afford to lose and definitely no plastic.

Casinos are there for the purpose of making money and that they do very abuntantly. I do go once a year when my daughter and I do the once a year mother/daughter bonding trip to the next big city for a day of shopping eating out casino at night then we return home the next day. I always enjoy myself which includes the casino. I have never won anything but I don't pay hundreds of dollars either. I guess it's like everything else some smoke some drink and some gamble. I don't do any of those because I drive and the price of gas is robbing me.

Good Grief 1.25 a package. I think I was paying that when I was about 18 years old. I quit in 1976 and they were 5.00 then. I just phoned the store and asked and they said a package of 25 is 12.35.

OMG I need to read you did say they went UP 1.25. So what do they cost a pkg? Sorry I'm so stupid tonight.

I have been to 2 different casinos. I stuck to playing the quarter slots. It was kind of fun. The first time I pretty much broke even and the second time I lost about 20 bucks.

Breaking even is winning from what I heard. I guess 20 is not too bad.

I have never been to one myself but I have heard some bad storys of what happens when you loose your money there, they are also built to make you loose, so the odds are agents you already.

Yes, they are designed so we lose our money, but every thing is pretty much to take money out of our pockets. It just seems to me that they are a lot like life insurance - we are paying because we are betting that we will die, they insure us because they are betting we will live. The casinos are there to get our money, but we go there to have fun, yet we have more fun if we win, so we are paying not to have fun. I think I am confused.

I actually worked in a casino in the security department for a short time. Before that, I had visited casinos and did a little gambling. But, I only gambled a small amount at a time. One time, though, I was playing the quarter machines in Laughlin and won $40 in quarters. I didn't exchange them or anything, but took them home to use for laundry. I also used them to buy lunch on the way back, too. It's fun when you have the money to risk. A lot of people forget that casinos are in the business to make money. They take in way more than they actually pay out.

It is a business and they would not stay in business if everyone could get rich. Well, it is good to know you worked in one and have not really gambled in one - or at least not habitually.

I've been to the Turning Stone casino in New York state a few times...but only played the games once and also took my husband there once for bingo on his birthday or something.

I just went to the Argosy in Indiana a couple of weekends back. I had a lot of fun, but it was mostly because of the company I was with. For the most part I wouldn't go to the casino on a regular basis, because you end up losing a lot of money if you don't hit on anything. But the experience is fantastic, and I had a great time. I don't have anything bad to say about casinos, just know what you will be spending when you go, and make sure that you do not go over that limit.

My husband and I went to one a couple of times several years ago. We didn't take much money at all each time, no more than we knew we would have spent other places on other things and the gasoline prices were not like they are now either. I just played the slot machines. It was fun.

It sounds like you enjoyed yourself but not really number one on your list and you are right, with gas prices, casinos are low on the list of priorities.

I don't gamble. It would be a waste of hard earned cash. That at this point would be better put to use in a gas tank.lol I have been to a casino. A friend took me. I had a nice meal while they gambled.

It seems like almost everyone I know has been to one and looks at me like I had 3 heads when I say I have never been to one and really don't have a burning desire to go to one.

Yes I have been to a casino, a couple of times in fact. I am not a gambler by any means but it can be a fantastic night out at a casino and I hardly spend any money there! The casino that we go to have entertainment on and it is also a restaurant, we went for a meal and listened to the entertainment and then had a few pounds on some of the slot machines. My hubby had £20 GBP ($40 approx) to spend, and I had the same. He won £70 on top of his £20, and I won £40 on top of my £20 and then after that we came off them.

I've never been and would never go. I simply do not like the general atmosphere of places like that. I know that some people are there out of curiosity, but most are there to try to make money by gambling. That is so very not me! And, of course, where there's gambling, you can usually find a few other vices as well. I have a good friend who goes to Atlantic City a few times a year. She brings home a lot more money than she leaves with every single time! I guess some people have it, and some don't. With my luck, I wouldn't have it. I would just end up losing everything. I don't even play the Lottery... the odds of winning are too great and that money is better off collecting interest in my savings account. I've known other people who love them. I just don't get it. My brain doesn't function that way, or something.

You mentioned lottery tickets, once in a great while I will buy them - maybe 4 or 5 times a year, but it is never planned, suddenly something will strike me that says buy one. A few weeks ago I had 2 mechanics tell me that I was very lucky and I should buy a lottery ticket, this was in the same day and for 2 different problems. I figured I already spent $800 so what would one more dollar hurt. ....I won $10. Not a lot but I was happyl You are so right about the other vices..but I hear you can get some great eating deals....

I've been to casino but rarely to gamble... Being it that most of the Casinos are hotels, they have shows, concerts & stuff & that's what me & my girl friend go for... I have done occasional gambling while we were there but we don't go to them on sole purpose of gambling... Few years ago, I went to casino with few buddies to watch boxing match... We ended up staying over night & after the match, we did gamble... I ended up winning $850 bucks but that was just one time thing... It ended up paying for my room for the night, ticket to the boxing, gave a buddy who drove $50 for part of gas & tolls, & my portion of dinner bill... Then came home with few bucks extra in my pocket... That was pretty cool...

I have not been to a casino, and I have no plans to do so. I am like you, Deb. I cannot stand to lose money. I cannot even stand the thought of losing money. My mental image is that it would be smoky, and loud, and babbling. I just do not think of that is fun.

In England, our casinos are rather different to yours, in the States, but when I visited a friend in Oregon, I did visit one. We went for a meal, and then played the slots for a while... it was fun, and I came away a little up. So, all was well. I don't think I'd make a habit of it but I was on holiday so it was a one-off which I quite enjoyed. Brightest Blessings, my friend.

Yes, I have in the past. I am about an hour from the ones in Biloxi, and I don't get out there due to my car and moreso, I hate giving my hard earned money to a machine and not get something back, but I have friends that get down there pretty regular though, but not me.

Since we live in Las Vegas, only a short time, but here we are, I've been to a few casinos. The first time is very impressive with all the glitz and the rooms and rooms of slot machines and the gambling tables, etc. I don't like spending my money, so I probably will never be hooked on sitting at the slots for hours like a lot of people do. So I don't go to gamble anymore. It's fun while it lasts, but afterwards I regret spending even my small amount of money. Also, the movie theaters and bowling alleys are all mainly in the casinos so we have to go there part of the time regardless. We walk through and go to the movies, maybe stop at a food court or a restaurant on the way in or out. The casinos do have great entertainment so I think it would be worthwhile to go for that reason alone. The star power that comes to the casinos is amazing. I'd go to the casinos for the shows definitely.
