Bad Habits.. .

Do you have bad habits? Have you been able, or trying to change them? Bad habits may cause you to miss opportunities, avoid certain situations and even give others misleading information about your personality (such as viewing you as insecure because you have a habit of not making eye contact). Of course, bad habits can take on many forms, such as: • Smoking/drinking • Cursing • Biting your nails • Procrastinating • Twirling your hair and fidgeting • Overeating • Lying • Interrupting people So how do we change or get rid of them?

Smoking I guess, although to be honest I don't consider it a bad habit. I consider it as something that I take enjoyment from. To be honest I don't really know why they call it a bad habit, or what constitutes it as one. Is it a bad habit because everyone on the planet isn't smoking too? If everyone was smoking, just like almost everyone drives, would it be wrong? It's not wrong to drive, it's just too damn expensive these days. I think that people just love labeling. Label this, label that, this is good for you, this is bad for you. Just about every other ten years they tell us that what they thought was good for your body is now actually bad for your body. Labeling is only restricting. And I forbid myself from buying in to any of it. I hope this doesn't come off sounding negative, I don't mean to sound negative to you, just society :)

No, I would not take your response as a negative Callie. This is an open discussion and everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion. I appreciate your participation. I will try to answer your question though, as to why they call it a bad habit. While I understand, being a smoker myself, that it provides "benefits" to a smoker, like when in deep tense, to calm. or while thinking deeply, but bad refers to the effect of it in our physical body. Thanks your for sharing your thoughts on this. I appreciate it.

Maybe it's almost synonymous to "interrupting people"? Only in a different instance. Let's hope somebody could advise on how to change it.

Yes, I am a smoker...one of the worse (physically) bad habits. I know I should quit, but it is so much easier said than done. I did quit once...for seven months and gained 30 lbs...and started back up..ugh. I should have started exercising instead of smoking again.

Yes, I agree. It's easier said than done. I quit a lot of times myself. On and off.

The only bad habit I really have is laziness and/or forgetfulness. I think to get rid of habits you simply have to be proactive. You've got to recognize the bad habit, it's cause, and ask yourself how to fix it. It doesn't really go away otherwise.

Laziness is yes a bad habit. But forgetfulness, personally I would not consider it a bad habit because you are not really aware. Unless ofcourse if we use forgetting as an excuse for procrastination which is what I would really consider a bad habit. Yes, you are right, it will come from ourselves on how to fix it. Have you been successful yet? Thanks for your thought buddy.
