When we're making a long journey, I generally make a loaf of sandwiches. Of course, these only last the frist leg of the trip - if we want more, we have to buy the fixings! Other foods we take are dried fruits, nuts, maybe pretzels...string cheese keeps awhile, especially if you have a small cooler. Homemade muffins or fruit bars are good choices, especially made with whole grains, as the extra fiber and protein keep you full longer. Fresh fruits, especially hard fruits like apples, travel well too. We might pack one or two 'treat' foods, like licorice nibs or cheese curls, but we don't go overboard on those. We are packing foods that taste good and provide energy for the drive without resorting to fast food drive-throughs and the like. Hope this helps! ~Sara
