Almost everyday in the news, in a paper, a magazine or on tv you hear of some new disease or one we already know about causing severe illness and death in our country. What do you feel is the most important one facing our country today?

More than looking for a specific disease to fear, why don't we look at the food we as Americans put into our systems, the additives and steroids we pump into our children and blame that for the epidemics we're encountering. In the 90s I read about high fructose corn syrup. It was accsued of doubling the obesity rates of americans in just over a decade. It's a cheap sugar that is put in ALMOST EVERY QUICK MEAL YOU SERVE YOURSELF. It's in chips and fruit juice. I am lactose intolerant. In the United States. But when I travel abroad, I can comfortably indulge in dairy. Why, I ask you? Because their cattle are not pumped with steroids. Other countries do notpack their chickens in so tightly that they eat each other. A 2 month old chicken is actually the size of a 2 month old chicken. Look at the cancer rates in other countries and compare it to their diet. I am more and more convinced that the things which are created to convenience us are making us ill.

WOW...what great comments!!! I love to see people giving their opinions. I have to say that I do believe it is also obesity...I try to eat healthy and make healthy meals for my family. I have also been involved with a wellness company that has taught me many things about chemicals in our homes too!!! It is scary all the things we think are ok that are causing cancer and other things!!!

im not from the usa but from what i hear in the papers and on the news ..its obesity and no insurance when you get sick and end up with huge bills. the uk might slag the NHS off ...but least we have it over here..feel sorry for the americans who have to pay for their treatments.

The biggest health care problem is lack of care for Americans who don't have health insurance and can't afford to get what they need.

I think the biggest health issue today is that a huge percentage of American's do not have health insurance. Therefore they never get the medical treatment they need.

That is true...so many people do not have it. I know that if we were not a military family we would struggle to pay for health care!!!

I think the most important health issue facing Americans today is obesity.. Lack of exercise and preference for junk food has resulted in a lot of people suffering from obesity. People need to understand that this is an issue.

I would have to say obesity, so many other health related problems are related to our country's obsession with fast food and junk food.
