Do you say goodbye on the phone?

I noticed that whenever I am talking to someone on the phone, I usually end the conversation with a thank you, and not a goodbye. Now I am thinking, is it just me or are there other people out there who do the same thing that I do? I know that I say goodbye when talking to close friends, but with anyone else, no, I just say thank you. What do you say after a telephone conversation? Do you also say goodbye, or just do not say it. :)

This is funny you brought this discussion up. It used to drive my ex husband crazy that I never said bye after I had finished the call i would just hang up. Even though everyone knows i am not just hanging up on them i never said bye. I dont know why. It just does not sound right to me. Sounds cheesy! I usually just say ok, I love you or thanks.

I always say goodbye, it is like a habit or something. Its polite to say goodbye here, and i hear everyone saying goodbye. To close friends i just say bye, or something like that.

Thanks! I know its polite to say goodbye, but I find myself not wanting to say it... that saying thank you can suffice. :)

Yes, I always say "goodbye." it is only polite. I even say goodbye and try to be polite to telemarketers when I'm not interested in their product. I do hang up on recordings of telemarketers. I don't use my phone a lot and it is mostly for communication with my daughters so often times I go overboard and just out of habit say, " Goodbye, i love you" ....always good for an embarrassing moment.

That's interesting. I never really say goodbye instead I just say bye. I've never hung up on someone who said thank you unless they had asked something of me. With people I know it's usually a see ya or something. With really close people I've said 'uh huh' and hung up.

yes i always say goodbye to them. and i guess this is the proper etiquette to the caller for being a respectful and being a good moral to someone that we are dialing of.

Right before the end of a conversation I usually say thank you if I'm talking to a secretary or Customer Rep or anyone who called me and then right before I hang up I always say goodbye in some form just because it's a habit. Good luck here at MyLot.
