Losing morality, are we ??

Looking at past record, it is easier to see we have been losing our morality. More people are being rounded up in prisons for different crimes, more people have taken up violent methods, we are shooting humans and animals alike. Where is this leading us .. are'nt we completing a huge circle back to uncivilized ways ?? Our methods might be new, but arent we living the same mindset. What are your thoughts ?? ... Where do you think this will lead, and more importantly, where do u think we will end up.

People lose morality when they forget about God and religion. If you think about it you will see that morals come from religion and when people start concentrating on gaining wealth and forget the charitable and respectfull teachings of religion they lose their morals. Most people also commit crimes because they have not had the love of both parents and grow up in a state of rebellion. If you read the history of the Fall of Rome and the fall of other civilisations you will see that it all begins with the lack of morals and principles within the society. What all this means, of course, is that western civilisation, which began as a Christian society with Christian morality, is decaying. How it will fall is yet to be seen but history has proven that this is what is happening.

I do not think that our behavior is any worse than it has ever been through out the centuries. I just think that we hear about more of it thanks to modern communications. * We hear about 500 misdeeds from coast to coast say a year as apposed to 5 in a couple counties in the 1950's thanks to instant communications. We have war at the door step, 500 channels, in color, and on YouTube (Iraq) rather than far away now with computers rather than the gray staid Times and maybe Walter Cronkite (Vietnam). * We are in overload and are thinking that things are worse than they really are.

SO you mean if we switch off the tvs, the internets and the mobile phones, the evil in this world would lessen. Ignorance and knowledge dont create evil, neither knowledge or ignorance can destroy it. Its a human co ncept, based upon perceptions, values and upbringing.

The modern communication has magnified our perception of evil.

I dont know much about the world ending, but i do know that people dont care and respect other humans and human life .. and the ethics of right and wrong as they did earlier.

No actually, according to a survey .. and if you look up history, this is the best time to be alive. The survey was conducted by a well known magazine known as 'Readers Digest' Anywyas, my point being .. We do NOT have massacres like we had earlier, there is no holocaust, people actually hate wars .. hey used to promote them earlier. Sure you point out the extremists, the bombings .. but they are all just discontent people, finding a way to cause fear among people, hence destabilize the government. Their motive is not killing, its a change in power. But earlier, we had plannned killings, mass killings, plans to wipe out a whole religion etc. I wont say things have gotten better, but sure they havent gone worse either. Jus thanks o inmternet and satellites, we hear about themmore .. from across the world.

Thats all well and good and right ... but you are talking about the whole world at large. What aboutt the little children who get hit, the old who are left alone, the people who suffer torture, rapes, pasedophiles ... robbers. We might be living in a more eductaed, more civil world, but all of that suggests we have gone wrong somewhere.

I agree with you, and we're deteriorating at an awful fast rate. I've wondered about it many times, what in the world is wrong with people? I think we all have the potential to be and do evil. I believe what has happened is people now have the means to feed thier depravity in the privacy of their own homes, and society is teaching them it's okay, that they can't help it. The stuff that's shown on tv, the things that people can have access to on thier computers, all of this feeds a mind that is already weak and susceptible to do evil. I think if we were to take these same people that are doing hidious things, and take them back 200 years, I don't think most of them would do what they're doing now. They wouldn't be exposed to the stimuli. Yes some would, but I just don't think the majority would. And I don't believe it's going to get better, I believe it's only to get worse. People don't want God, they don't need God, and they're not going to have God and his teachings and precepts. When you pull God out of things, you end up with a whole peck of trouble.

Right .. its the stimuli that governs the behaviour. As most actions are responses, then the loss of moralss and unethical actions are result of a stimuli as well. The farther we drif away from the 'good' principles .. the more evila nd un-ethical we will become. Its like vicious circle... and it truly sad.

I agree with above posts, there are no war and massacre now.But unfortunately, people are getting ruder and,uh,ironically, getting more uncivilized. For example, remember the man who got hit by a car,but NOBODY help him? It's not the Mafia did it or the victim is a serial killer or rapist,he's an old man!But nobody help him, they just stare. So yeah, people are getting civilized(by hating war, helping other nations, etc) and getting uncivilized(by thinking that my business is mine, your's is your's)

ID agree ... wars and massacres if represnt the condiotion or state of mind of a collective soceity .. not helping the one who needs help and ignoring the wrong that has been goin on right in front of us also represents a state of mind .. which says we indeed have lost our judgement of morally right or morally wrong. Even if we havent lost it, we sure are ignorant towards it.

I actually think this has been an on going thing....in the past we never heard that much about it as the new media wasn't as strong as it is now. There will always be those certain few who do "bad" things....and they are the ones that get all the attention.

But there are people who do these things just because they are like that. They dont seek attention. A person see an old couple moving carrying a wallet. He takes it .. and runs knowing that they cannot catch him. Now if he wanted attention, wouldnt he had stayed ?? And you cannot say that such things dont happen ... they do in every city they do.

Yes, we are loosing morality if we check all these only one thing comes in to my mind i.e very soon the world will get end. We lost our morality, more people are in to crimes. No one exists in the world who feel for fellow human beings, just the methods are new but we are living with same mindsets. I completely agree with you.
