My son is seven months old and crawla with his butt up in the air. He has started standing himself up on couches, tables, people and anything else that he can pull up on. My question is, when is he supposed to actually walk on his own? Is it normal for him to be trying so young?

Anything is normal when it comes to children. My daughter didn't start walking until she was around one years old, but I started when I was around 6 or 7 months. It's really all up to the child. He's probably trying so early because he sees everyone else walking and he wants to be like everyone around him. Let him grow the way he wants. Don't hold him back.

That boys legs aren't little, and he's too strong to let them bow.

Well if hes trying it on his own then he is ready... just let him explore his own strength and have faith in him and build his confidence...don't freak out or shout if he should fall down just give him encouragement. I have a nephew who never tried to stand up or crawl when he was a baby. He just stood up and walked one day. while playing with his younger cousins. My sister told me that when he was still a baby he tried standing up once and he fell down my sis and her husband freaked out and shouted when it happened. After that incident, he never tried standing up again.

My little butterball falls on his butt a lot, and rolls over and tries again. We only get up to help if he bonks his little noggin or he starts to cry.

its a little rare, but not that unusual. most kids start walking around a year old. my first two did. my second is 11 months and he has just started taking a few steps without holding on to anything. i had a kid in daycare though that rolled over at 2 months, crawled by 4 and was walking by 6! everyone is different. just make sure you have edges of stuff protected so he doesn't fall and bump his head. and anything he can reach while standing that you don't want him to get should be moved lol.

He sounds very advanced. Really he does. Mine was pulling up around that age, too. She was a tiny little baby, but she always tried to stand up. She never learned to crawl, and some babies don't. We have stone tile floors, so crawling was hard to do. She just would pull up on couches and stuff and sort of walk along holding onto stuff. One day she just took off walking without any help, when she was just about one year old. Her muscles were finally strong enough and we were so proud. Before then, we would hold her hand and help her walk along the floor and that gave her good practice to develop strong muscles. I am sure your son will be fine. Every baby has to develop the muscles needed for standing. I think that is what he is doing. Best wishes for you and your baby. Be well.

every child is different hunni, my daughter didnt walk until she was about 17 months old yet my son was up and nearly running around at 10 months old. I shouldnt worry too much at all if your son is otherwise healthy then he will do it when he is ready.

i have 2 brothers, age 4 and 3, and can remember when they they start walking.. i started when i was 1, and they started whe they were about 1 year plus... so i guess it is normal for the kid to try walking by themselves... let him take his time... i think he is rather fast... so he should be ok...

I have 3 kids and each kid started walking in different ages. My eldest daughter started to crawl when she's 10 months old but dare to walk by herself without any help at all when she's 22 months of age. My second son started to crawl when he's only six months and walked by himself on his first birthday. whereas, my third one had her first tooth when she's four months old and started to crawl at 9 months old and walked by herself when she's 14 months old. So, I think every kids have different ability. there's no exact time to start walking. it depends on his/her health. however, normally..babies start to crawl when she/he is six or seven months old.

All kids are different. The earliest I have seen a child walk is at 9 months old some children walk early and some walk late I have seen kids walk as late as 18 month. It is great your son is trying to walk so early!

Some babies can start walking as early as about 7 months. Don't be suprised if he "cruises the furniture" for months before he actually takes his first independant step. My daughter started the same thing at 7 months and didn't actually walk on her own till her first birthday.

of course it is natural and normal . hE Would not be trying if he is not strong enough. Babies go on to the next stage and try to do things only when they are ready for it. So dont worry and let him do what he likes to do. Some kids start to walk even at ten months .

Babies learn to walk on their own if they are ready. Some babies learn to walk early and some late. But you don't need to be alarmed. Yes, its normal for you baby to try walking at a very young age. Mine did also. i was very happy and proud then. You just need to support him to avoid getting hurt. Most babies walk on their own at the age of one. Just don't rush him. He'll learn it soon. :)

I think all kids walk in their own time. My oldest walked at 14 months and my youngest walked at 16 months. Seven months is early but not all that unusual.

My only baby girl is 8 months old, and she is doing the same thing your son is doing. I can't wait until she walks and talks to me and her mother. Enjoy your time with your baby.

Normally children start walking from 8 months on wards, I think your son started very early may be in a month or two he will start walking completely , thats a great news...

There is NO set time, if a child is ready early then there's nothing wrong with them at all. My daughter was doing the same things as your son & was an early walker but i have a nephew at the moment who was 1 in May & he still hasn't got the knack of walking, he's only recently sussed out he could stand on things. My Mum told me that my cousin (she's now 27) didn't walk or talk as such until she was 2 so it all depends on when they're ready to do things. You cant force them & i don't recommend trying to stop them from advancing. Just let your son do as he pleases & he'll get there in his own time! So, yeah the answer is - there is no time when he's SUPPOSED to walk, they just do it when they're good & ready!

Kids vary and they'll learn to stand and walk on their own time. So if he is trying so early, maybe he is just grasping it naturally (be it innate or imitated). From the sound of it, he's excelling at the whole thing. Be sure to get a picture or two though Kymber, for memories sake.

Yes, I'd say that is a pretty average to start pulling up. My oldest daughter who is now 4 1/2 started walking at 10 months on her own, my middle daughter who is 3 started walking at 11 months on her own, and my 7 month old son loves standing up. He is not yet crawling too good - he scoots around and hasn't really started pulling up on his own yet, but my two girls did very early. Most babies I know start walking right around 12 months old, though I have a few friends whose children did not fully take their own steps until around 14 months old! Your son will know when his legs are strong enough so just let him explore and be independent! You may have an early walker like mine!

I've seen a baby that was 6 months old walking around on her own. She was a very petite child and very smart, so I think it was easier for her. My son started walking at 10 months and my daughter at 18 months. There can be quite a variation. Little ones are trying to absorb and learn so much at once that sometimes they focus on one skill to the detriment of the others. It's fine if he focuses on walking now, but he may focus on that so hard that you shouldn't be surprised if he's a little later than other babies with some other skill. But he's probably quite normal!

Yes its just normal. just guide him or with the help of a walker. maybe by 10 months he can walk 3 steps by himself. massage her legs every morning will help a lot.
