loyality to the company

One of my friend had put his resignation papers to the company as he had got an onsite opportunity. To his bad luck there were some personal problems arised, hence he decided to stay back and withdraw the papers. Surprisingly his problems got solved within a week which he himself didn't expect. Again he put his resignation paper back to company and left the company. Company has held him when he was in bad condition of his life, but he forgot that needful assistance he got from the company. Do you think that he did a right thing or not?
