This statement shows me how much I've changed over the past couple of years.
A few years ago I would buy the tiny 1 lb bags of flour, and use maybe a tablespoon here or there. Then the next time I needed it I'd find it full of bugs because it sat so long and was out of date. I think I may have bought flour once a year, and often would never use it.
Now I find myself buying 10-15 lbs of flour a week! I had to run out last night to buy more because I was out, and I'd just bought 10 lbs on Friday!
Flour isn't the only thing I'm running out of. I'm on a program called WIC. It's a government program that gives free milk, juice, cereal, and eggs to pregnant women and children under 5. Due to this program we had a never ending supply of eggs, and would often find ourselves making eggs just to use them because they would be expiring soon. At this moment I have about 4 eggs in the fridge, and will probably run out before I do my shopping on Friday! I don't think that's ever happened in this house!
What food staple do you use a lot more of now that you didn't a few years ago?

I find myself using alot of flour too, only because I bake alot more than I used to a few years back. Eggs also finish quickly at my house for the same reason!
I feel like I use alot more milk and alot more oil (but not for baking, just for every day cooking) than I used to.
Oh, I have just figured out what is the thing I use the most. Butter! I have at least 4 sticks in the fridge because every time I bake I need butter. I never want to run out of it so I keep that many on hand and you'll be surprised that I ain't fat but actually VERY skinny. You would think I'd gain weight with all those desserts and fattening ingredients.

Oh yes butter!! I used to only buy butter when we were having special meals, like crab legs or salt potatoes. Now I'm buying 2 or 3 pkgs of butter a week, both salted and unsalted.
I can't even remember the last time I used margerine.
Unfortunatly I am fat, and getting fatter, lol. I've had many doctors appointments lately as I'm having surgery in a few days, and each appt I've gained weight. I've got to work on that!
Thanks for responding.

When I was younger my mother used to buy margarine and I did not bake or make desserts alot back then. In fact, neither did she. We would have one stick of butter in the fridge and it was probably begging to be used I bet.
I probably use 2 sticks of butter a week average. In fact I am going to make peanut butter bars soon and that alone uses half of one stick!
I hope your surgery goes well. You know the funny thing is, I could use the extra weight...I just have a high metabolism, ah well!

I use quite a bit of butter right now as I'm trying all sorts of new things. I'm making homemade bread which takes 2 tablespoons of butter, as well as many other desserts, breads, etc.
I'd be willing to give you some of my extra weight, lol.

According to my husband, if we have bologna and eggs, then we have groceries.. I don't like meat, so I need to keep a few more staples than that..

I would say for me its Sugar. I didn't hardly ever use sugar before I got married. I'm diabetic so I didn't really have a need for it, but sometimes in the past few years I've turned into Betty Crocker...lol. I'm always baking something, my husband likes for me to bake things and so I'm always out of sugar...thats funny..lol.

Flour is one thing I never am out of.I usually keep a 5 lb bag of both self-rising and plain flour.I use the plain for baking pound cakes and the self-rising for most everything else I bake. I don't bake as many cakes as I did when my children were home or on holidays. But I do keep my flour and meal in the refrigerator to keep from getting bugs in it.
We use lots of eggs. My husband loves boiled egg sandwiches for his lunch every day.And I cook lots with them. I usually eat an egg every morning as well.
I think right now sugar is the one thing we are using more of.We have two of our grandchildren staying with us during the summer and one of them drinks lots of tea.The other one drinks lots of kool-aid.So,the sugar really is used lots around here!
