Changes in a lifetime

I was born in 1939, just after the outbreak of world war II and in a corner of North America not known for its prosperity. At the time a slate and slate pencil was used in the little one room school and each child carried a bottle of water and a cloth to wash and dry the slate after the assignment was marked by the teacher. I used a slate at home but the year I started school, the slate was gone and everyone was using paper. We received mail once every two weeks, and I guess thought the rest of the world lived as we did. When I retired I was using a computer, and messages were sent and received in seconds via fax machine. It is sometimes hard to believe that so many changes could happen in just a few short years. As I'm hoping to be around for a few more years who knows what other changes there may be. I know that some of you are still in the teens and early twenties, I say to you, expect great changes in your lifetime. Nothing is impossible. Blessings.

That is a serious blessing to have been around so long to see things change from slates to computers. That is beautiful, you have see more of the world change in ways some may never see. That is something, did you walk to school or did you ride a horse? I had to ask cause you did say that you went to school when there was only one room. That would mean that you walked to school too. Now a days transportation has changed greatly since you were a little one.

Hi twallace, Thank you for your comments. As a matter of fact I walked more than two miles to school. There were about six of us who had to carry a bag lunch, because we lived too far to go home. I did forget to add in my post that although it was a one room school when I was born, another classroom was added by the time I started school. So I attended a two room school. Blessings.

Hi Pose123! I do agree with you completely that there have been a lot of changes happening each day..some I am aware of and some I really don;t have any clue what they are. haha.. I am in my early forties and I am bracing myself to a more high tech world and I hope I can keep up with the pace. However, I hope the changes will make us better individuals. Take care and God bless!

Advances in technology has been tremendous since world war II. In communications, where much money has been spent, state of the art technology is the name of the game that is why we have cell phones, satellite dish, satelitte in outer space, etc. We would not know what tech will still come out. As the knowledge of man advances, amazing things are being discovered.
