If jokes are off-limits on MyLot, then why is there a humor section?

I was just browsing the various categories and found the Humor interest forum on MyLot. Funny thing. I thought that posting jokes was against TOS. I guess the two things are different. What do you think about this? If I post something funny on the MyLot Humor forum will it get deleted, as it's basically against TOS. Or, at least I think it is. What's your thoughts on this?

I honestly think that that is a really silly think to not allow people to post jokes. I mean this is a discussion board and we should be allowed to post whatever we want within reason. I see nothing wrong with posting jokes as long as they are funny and not disrespecting to anyone. I think Mylot should re-evaluate their TOS and change some of the things on it

Some people have funny stories to tell about their own lives. Humor doesn't mean that it has to be a joke. I usually skip the jokes anyway. I get way too many jokes fowarded to my email as it is. I try to stay away from them here.

Just because something falls in to the "humor" category doesn't mean it's a joke. I noticed one joke that didn't get deleted a while back. But the person shared the joke, then wrote about 3 paragraphs about why that joke meant something to her. Why it mirrored her life experience. I think if more people did that, the jokes would not be deleted. You can have a discussion about life experiences, but it's hard to say something other than, "funny joke" as a comment about a one liner joke.

I guess it is different. Jokes is obviously jokes when you read it, while if you post something funny happened to you, then I guess it is not against TOS.

yES i too was wondering about it. I joined the sharing the jokes interest and only later did i know that it was against the rules. Why do they have those interests in mylot then? They could have deleted them na?

The tag line/topic of your post is humorous but not a joke. Lol I mean, if you post something in a discussion which is funny then it is okay, and it goes to the humor section, but a joke is different and is most certainly meant to amuse you. I guess thats it. But I dont get the reason for jokes being forbidden in posts on Mylot.

The Terms of Service are decided by MyLot. The Categories are created by the users and (apparently) MyLot don't edit these or vet them in any way. I have noticed that there are some very stupid categories (almost one for every vegetable you can think of) which would be much better grouped together under 'Cookery' or 'Gardening', for example. Perhaps they will get around to rationalising this ... perhaps they like it the way it is. Who knows? Jokes and recipes certainly don't really constitute valid 'discussions' and both are mentioned in Guidelines. I think I would not post under those headings if I were you!

I have wondered abou this too. I'm almost afraid to answer the stuff that comes up in this section because I'm worried I'll be wasting my time on something that'll just get deleted. Very annoying!

I think is is ver wrong myself. I have seen quite a few of my friends in here. That posted jokes. Nothing wrong with them and the next day they got deleted. Which to me is wrong. We need to have laughter in here sometimes.

It doen't make sense to me either. I can see it if there was something bad in them or cuss words but other then that I don't get why they get deleted.

Jokes are always fun! I wonder why jokes are discouraged if there is an actual Humor forum on Mylot. One of the huge mylot mysteries I will never understand.

Ah, see you should have posted this discussion under the messing with your mind interest and not the mylot interest. I think maybe one of the other responses I saw was right. As long as you ask a question that pertains to the joke then it should be ok.

I have posted quit a number of jokes here and have not seen any of it deleted yet. I never knew that posting jokes here is against the TOS, thanks for bringing this up so I can be cautious next time I post or reply to Jokes related discussions. When it comes to humor, I think thats a different thing. Humor can be something you saw happening on the streets or something funny you did. So the two are very different. There are jokes that are sick jokes, the ones that have foul language and indecent words. those are the kind of jokes that are not allowed i think.

I think that if you make the discussion more than just a joke, then it might be ojay to post it. But to just post a joke is against the guidelines and yes, it could possibly be deleted. I think that the only way mylot knows which discussions to delete is if someone reports it as abuse. How else would they know about it? They can't go and check everyones discussions, not enough manpower to do that, so I think they have to have a complaint before they look at it. I see some discussions are deleted and then the very next discussion I read is on the same lines as the one deleted, the same subject. So that is why I think that mylot only reads the discussion if someone reports it.

I suppose some jokes can be offensive and it's hard to determine if a joke would offend someone. Only the person hearing the joke can determine if it's offensive. So, what do you do, decide what's offensive or just stay away from joke telling totally.

Maybe the humor section is just a joke. I would think they are trying to keep people from posting joke after joke. After all some jokes only deserve a response like "lol" or "ROLf". Now a funny story about something you did or happened is a different thing.
