Tax on fuel

If the government refuses to cut the tax on fuel to try to encourage us to use less and thereby reduce the effect on the environment, why are they allowing extra airport runways to be built? Surely, more runways equals more flights equals more fuel used ? Maybe that's too simplistic and I'm missing the point of some greater plan??

I think that the greater plan is to keep all us 'little' people in our place, maybe this should read 'How to screw the most out of the masses'.
