Hi everyone. We were watching a documentary about dinosaurs the other day. Now I'm not questioning the existence of them but I would like to know where in the bible it mentions them. I've read about the "Leviathan" but that is a sea animal/monster like a whale (according to the bible) Can anyone tell me where it mentions dinosours?

archeology is a pretty new science. the people who wrote the bible definitely had no idea about the ancient creature. they just wrote what they saw, hear, what they know and what they could imagine.

Archeology deals with artifacts related to human activities. Human beings were never contemporaneous with dinosaurs. The science that deals with fossil remains even older than humans is paleontology, a fairly new science itself.

In Job 40:15, it talks about the behemoth. Strong's concordance says it is probably an extinct dinosaur. Other sources also say it is the best description of a dinosaur that you will find in the Bible. The name dinosaur was not used back in those days for these animals.

Now that you mention it I do remember reading about the behemoth. I just didn't realize that's what it was. Thanks so much Barb

Well, we know they had to be here from the beginning when animals were first introduced on the earth. So there had to be some mention of them in the Bible. It's just that the name was not mentioned the way we know them now.

The Bible was written by inhabitants of the Near-Middle East so you will only find animals known to them in the Bible. Not to mention that the term "Dinosaur" didn't exist until the 1840's when Sir Richard Owen described the dinosaurs. Many of the animals living today are not in the Bible either. Have you seen mention of the polar bear, or the penguins? I strongly doubt that, because Israeli did not know these animals 2000 years ago.

You know, I have read the Bible 3 times from cover to cover and I can't say that I've seen them mentioned? Sorry.
