Pills:Can you swallow them?

I was responding to a discussion and it got me thinking so I thought I would pose a question to all of my fellow mylotters, can you swallow a pill?If so,have you always been able to swallow a pill?If not,at what age did you find out you can not swallow a pill?Do whether or not you can swallow it depend on how big the pill is?Do you know anyone who is unable to swallow a pill?I am 23 years old and ever since I was little I never could swallow a pill ,no matter what my mom tried, she tried putting it in ice cream, and pudding, but I always threw it back up,because of my gag reflexes,so I have to take liquid antibiotics and liquid adult strength Tylenol, and to take my blood pressure medicene I have to crunch it up in my moms pill cruncher just so I can take it,which totally sucks,it has been a while since I last tried swallowing a pill, but I know my gag reflexes are as strong as ever, and I am still afraid I will throw it back up,does anyone have any advice or suggestions that would help me,and I would appreciate any responses I get on this discussion, and I would appreciate anyone who takes this discussion seriously, because to me this is a very serious matter.

Hie Hellcowboy, sometimes I do find it difficult to swallow certain antibiotic pills especially those huge tablet ones. And if I am lucky, some are in suspension or liquid forms otherwise I would have to crush it to a powder form and mixed it in my beverage drink. It is not so bad if it's in a chocolate drink but do taste funny Another option, I normally mix the powdered pills with some sweet syrup and just swallow it followed by some fruit or sweet drink to get rid of the bitter taste. I think by believing that the pills would not taste that horrible, will certainly make the process easier when swallowing them. Cheers and best wishes.

I am sorry to hear that sometimes you have trouble swallowing pills, and yeah some come in liquid forms which is better, especially when it tastes good lol,and yeah if we pretend it tastes like candy or something it should make it easier to take medicine, thanks for responding, have a great day, good luck in your life, and Happy Posting.

I can, but I hate taking any and all pills. Seems like everytime I take one I feel sick no matter what kind it is. If it an uncoated tablet or soft liquid gel it is coming back up. I can't stomach those and the taste is horrible! It has to be hard capsule or coated then it wont be as bad and I can keep it down. If they are those horse pills forget about it, I'm not taking it! I never been really good taking pills ever since I was little. I try and stay away from pills in general!

I can swallow a pill, but I don't know when I've started to realize that I could. Maybe it was when I am really in a bad condition.

Well, yes I can swallow a pill. But I would really want it better if I do have a glass of water to flush down the pill. I can easily swallow some pills but not so much when it comes to others. There are pills that tastes really bad and those are the pills that I can't take unless I do have a glass of water. On the other hand, there are those that tastes good (almost like candy). These are the pills I can take without water.

I've never been good at taking pills and when I was a child my mum would have to buy disprin, which is the dissolvable aspirin or crush up the tablets. I'm still not great at it but unlike you I don't throw up I just get really uptight about it. I just hate the feeling of it sticking in my throat the most. Can you not get liquid versions of your meds as the whole point of tablets is that they are broken up and released in the stomach, which isn't happening if you have to crush them first.
