1981 Clash of the Titians. It is slated for 2010 release. I absolutely love the original. I cannot believe they are remaking this movie.

Seems like it doesn't it? Look at all the remakes of Batman and and a few other shows. Maybe we should be asking "are they running out of ideas?" since alot of the new stuff seems to be been there done that stuff. Might be a few more special effects and stuff but it is basically the same.

Hollywood is timid more than lazy, I think. It takes a lot of effort to make even a remake. However, some would say it is better to make a movie you feel will make some profit than to swing for the fences and try for a big hit. Then again, you have producers, actors, and directors who need to make sure that they do not put a big old bomb of a movie out there and have their reputations tank because of it. I think people are timid about making movies when they should be bold. It is better to go to a movie that stands for something. Like "Wall.e" or even "Kung Fu Panda" which had messages in them deeper than, "watch what cool stuff we can do with special effects." Movies like "Wanted" or superhero or action hero movies have a temptation to fall into the eye candy field instead of being things you'll want to remember and quote in years to come. Take, for an example, the "Princess Bride" which is just phenomenal in the number of really cool lines.

They never run out of ideas and they are not lazy, they are a business. Making money is the name of the game and the truth is the same things are what always sell and thusly as years pass plots and flicks that were successful get recycled for new audiences and old alike.

I am not sure that they are lazy per se, but perhaps lack the creativity of their bygone brothers. the worst thing I think about a lot of these recent remakes is that they change the story so much that the only thing reminiscent of the original is a shared basic concept. yet they keep the original title - which then of course ends up nothing like the book the original was based on - and becomes a major disappointment for example "cheaper by the dozen"

Are you serious? Okay, well I'm not entirely surprised. I'm so tired of all of these remakes. They are seriously making me hate the originals. I guess no one can think on their own anymore over there. They have to use someone else's ideas to make some money. Isn't that sad?

I don't think it is being lazy, I think fresh ideas are starting to run out. Same is true for music, movie and tv shows. Its not just in Hollywood, even here in the Philippines we can see revivals as well. I think all the legendary composers, all the award winning writer are just aging and are running out of fresh ideas. Maybe fresh talent could help get fresh ideas. Its not that bad to see another revival. With the visual effects we have today, I think they could do a lot for the movie. It is also beneficial for the kids of today's generation to see the new movie instead of the old one because they might get bored with old one because the visual effects are very crude.

It sounds like it. I saw the movie, and I think that there could be no comparison with the original. There are some that improve like when Hitchcock remade The Man Who Knew Too Much. but others, like Yours, Mine, and Ours, DOA, The Manchurian Candidate and Doctor Dolittle, the last two being catered to the African American crowd, and Yours, Mine, and Ours the latter version to the "if you want a large family do not bear them yourself, adopt some and especially those from other races, etc." crowd and these seemed more likely intended to make us more politically correct. So what usually happens is that they try to insert a modern political message and put people in it who would not have been in the original.

I know! I know. That's so weird about Hollywood. They are really lazy. I think that they ran out of ideas and stuff to do when the writer's strike hit. So they started coming up with all these remake ideas. Except for a little revamp, most of the original scripts could be used intact! Same goes for "Gone with the wind." But I love the original and would not watch a remake.

I've never seen that movie but yeah I think that hollywood is running out of original ideas. I mean most of what you see today are movies from comic books. But I am glad that they are giving a chance to more writers to show their talent. Like the writers from Juno, Superbad and all these other funny movies. I just hope that more original ideas are going to come out. I read an article somewhere about this and so far most of the movies that have come out have been original.

They could be running out of ideas. Nothings better than original movies. I think they are running out of ideas at least somewhat.

I cannot think of a single movie remake that is better than the original. I guess after so long Hollywood is running out of new ideas for movies, so they are trying to put a new spin on the old ones. Some of them they have done a really bad job of. I give you Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for example.

That would be nice at least the special affects would be better than what they were back then. Now that would be the only thing that would be different. That movie was back in 1981 and to do and update of the movie. Now you know that it would be off the chain if they did that. It would be great with the was that they are doing graphics in movies now a days you know it would be good. Funny that it took them this long to do a remake of it though. But you have to say at least they are doing one.

A hefty proportion of films recently have been remakes, sequels or adaptations of TV series. Or a combination of these. I read once that whilst only good films get remade, they didn't need it. Instead, the films that should have been good, but weren't, are the ones that need redoing. So saying, some films have been remade in such a way that they are almost completely different from the original(s), but still good. e.g. I am Legend, The Italian Job.

I'm with you on this. The original movie is so wonderfully cheesy and the monsters and special effects are terrific. They could make it smoother and more authentic looking, I guess, but I don't think it could take the place of the original and I probably wouldn't go to the theater to watch it. I think Hollywood doesn't like to take chances anymore. There's got to be plenty of original ideas out there, I just figure they are languishing in someone's office.

Maybe holywood is running out of ideas. It seems to me that a lot of movies are similar that they are making these days
