Have you ever been to a Carafest? We have one every year in Montreal, held on the same weekend as Canada Day, There is always a parade with people from the Caribbean dressed in beautiful costumes (think of Mardi Gras) doing a dance called the Jump Up, actually in Montreal we call it the Jump Up, The year I met my husband I had the opportunity to be in the parade, and we went to the Park for celebration and music afterwards and at night there were plenty of private parties going on. My husband, now my ex is from Barbados. For some strange reason there is no website info this year but I managed to find a nice one from 2005, with a lady in costume to illustrate what elaborate and beautiful costumes people do have in this colorful, delightful parade http://www.trekearth.com/gallery/North_America/Canada/photo203096.htm

Yes I so understand. We're a fine pair. If only we lived a bit closer we could at least have a cup of coffee together.

I have never heard of Carafest. I did look at the site you sent and that costume is beautiful. Do they wear them while riding on a float with support to hold the comstume up or walk around with them on? If they wear them and walk around they have to weigh so much, looks like that one in the picture the costume weighs more than the lady.

yep they wear them on floats and some walk around with them, there is usually and internal contest for best costumes and each year they try to outdo each other.
