Do You Think Cartoon Network Features Violent Shows?

Would You Allow Your kids To still Watch this Channel? What Measures Would you Take to Ensure They Only Watch Non-Violent Shows? It was written, that programs on Cartoon Network "often features intense fights with swords, guns and lasers as weapons". Studies showed those violent cartoons give children anxiety and lead them to believe that violence or what they see is okay and acceptable in real life. Children under 8 years of age are not able to distinguish what is real and fantasy. They sometimes copy what they see on television whether cartoons or not, and unknowingly and not intensionally hurt others. If only we, as parents, become more aware and not allow our kids to watch violent shows. I, for one, doesn't like most shows on Cartoon Network. So, what I did was block the channel for good. I would rather, my kids watch Disney Channel. At least, it's educational and some other shows even have moral lessons to be learned.

I think a lot of the shows on Cartoon Network are violent and not good kids, especially shows like Family Guy,but there are shows on Cartoon Network that are not that bad, like American Dad,but I do understand why you blocked the channel, and I agree shows on Disney Channel ,or Nickolodean are better for kids.

I bet your son is complaining about not being able to watch shows on Cartoon Network, but I am glad to hear that you are standing firm on the issue, and that you plan on leaving the channel blocked for a long time, and maybe in the future your son will understand that you were looking out for him,and maybe if enough parents block the channel, they will try to do better family related shows like on the Disney Channel or Nickolodean, have a great day, good luck in your life, and Happy Posting.

Cartoons sure have changed since I was a kid. I remember when The Simpsons was a big risk by cartoon standards, now with the new ones like South Park (not necessarily violent just exceptionally crude) The Simpsons looks rather tame.

I find the cartoons in this channel not only violent but weird as well. Cartoons are supposed to be cute. The characters in their cartoons are plain weird..and they get weirder everyday. Animals with so many eyes, many legs, they look like freaks. The cartoons in this channel are not as entertaining to little kids as cartoons were before. This is my opinion alone. I have observed that older kids and even adults, like the cartoons here.

I heard my son said one time that some shows he didn't like because they were hurting each other..so, when I blocked it, I used his wordings...

i think the newer cartoons are more volient than they were when i was growing up. we tend not to watch the cartoon network due to it, there are a few good ones there. when you look closely at them and try to find the hidden meaning, you can't do it. even the simpson's have a meaning, and i'll let my son watch them, like they go to church on a sunday showing it's not that bad to go to church. both my partner and i like to watch, he-man, shera, astro boy, scobby doo, transformers etc from the 80's. you can see their messages. my son now loves watching tramformers, we got the box set now he's taken them, and watching voltron, plus others. just depends on what you want to let your kids watch really.

I loved those cartoons from the 80's too..I wish they'll put them back because they always have some moral lessons after the show...times have changed, I used to watch Simpsons too, but since Bart and Homer started saying words that I don't like, i told my son not to watch it too...thanks...

They can watch it if they like, they particuarly enjoy tom and jerry, pretty violent but then i think its up to me to make sure that their behaviour does not follow this. It is now down to what they do or dont watch on tv to mould their behaviour into something acceptable, that is down to me and their father as long as they are shown in real life what is right and wrong I dont think watching some tv programme which they know isnt real will harm, all about balance really isnt it

Studies showed those violent cartoons give children anxiety and lead them to believe that violence or what they see is okay and acceptable in real life LOL that is such a load of crap....I'm sorry but these so called "studies" are NOT accurate in the slightest.. Children under 8 years of age are not able to distinguish what is real and fantasy That is nothing more than a big fat lie...I know SEVERAL children under the age of 8 (including my own when they were that age) who DO know the difference....Why? BECAUSE WE MADE SURE TO TEACH THEM....the only way a child gets messed up etc over watching violence on tv is if the parents/caregivers DONT TALK TO THEM ABOUT IT....My son has been playing games like Mortal Kombat since he was 2, Grand Theft Auto since he was 9 or so and watching horror movies and violence on tv since he was about 4....he is now almost 15 and is one fo the most caring, compassionate, passive and gentle ppl his age....

Yes what ever you have written is really justified but it is really difficult to stop childrens particularly under 8 watching cartoon network.

The television in the main sala has a feature in which you can block a channel, so that's what I did..
