Have you ever received an email about the prediction that there will be an earthquake that will hit our country on the 18th of July? Well, I just did. A friend of mine based in the US forwarded me an email about the prediction. Actually it is a list of prediction by a certain Brazilian individual. And, one of his predictions is that an 8.1 magnitude earthquake will hit the Philippines on July 18 this year. While I was reading the list, I felt chills in my spine. Of course, it's hard to believe something like this. However, I can't help but think about what if it is true? Let's cross our fingers that there's no truth into this. God Bless us all!

Honestly I'm really scared of that prediction but since no one could actually predict when an earthquake will happen then I still have doubts about it. I just stay positive and hope that people who spread rumors like these should realize that there are more better things to do than scare people.

That is not a very nice email to receive, and I certainly can understand why you would feel a little wary of it. Given that there have been some pretty bad earthquakes so far this year I would be feeling a bit worried about it. Well, I really hope that whoever predicted it is not correct about it.

Yes, I received the same email yesterday. I actually do not want to believe it because as I have said before, NO ONE can ever tell what will happen unless you are God. Even if it is based on experiments and scientific facts, God is still the one who has the last say. Yes, it is good they try to warn people but they also give the signal for people to panic for something that might not happen at all. Panic may cause even bigger problems. PRAYER is the solution to everything. You cannot just NOT go to work because you think there is an earthquake that is going to happen. I think that would sound funny in the HR department. Life goes on. You cannot be scared forever for something that there is no certainty yet.

It's a PREDICTION but there's nothing to lose if we will be cautious but not going out just because it was predicted? I don't think so! I just hope it won't happen so let us just pray and be good. I don't think the media would pick this news up though before the july 16, 1990 earthquake, PHIVOLCS made predictions based on the plate tectonics movements. China is in the Eurasian plate (pls correct me if I am wrong since I am only writing according to best I can recall from my geology class) and the plate where Philippines is located is near that of China. Also, Indonesia is experiencing quakes every now and then and it is also near us so basically, our land is affected by these movements. Let us just pray that the movement won't be that strong and rapid so that we could move to safety if this will happen. We are in the hazard so this things are to be expected. Everyday is something we must be thankful for. We don't know when our life will end so I just hope that this won't bring scare but an eye-opening email for everyone. Let us love another instead bringing scare or whatever negative emotions.

No, haven't received email like that or would I ever want to know something to be cautious about in days to come. Then again, its better to be on our toes and expect anything that could come around within that day or the days to follow.. China alredy experienced a devastating blow, its quite a possibility for our country to experience the same thing.

Well if this happen, I think it will be the first earthquake with magnitude of 8.1 that will hit our country. Lets not believe in prediction, lets just have faith and pray to dear GOD that keep us from harm. For the safety of mankind I think the people who's responsible for this kind of activity will do their best to keep us safe. And hope not because we cannot predict the future we don't know what is bad will happen in the near future.

I haven't gotten this email yet. But then, this is just a prediction. Nonetheless it may or may not happen. Anything can happen though and we don't know what will happen tomorrow or even in the next 5 minutes. An 8.1 hitting the Philippines would be unimaginable. I remember the July 16th earthquake a few years back. We suffered around intensity 6 and my bus (school service) was rocking. In any case, we just need to be prepared for anything. Always be cautious and aware. Just pray for safety and don't be scared. Take care!

Just try to remember that there are people who make a living doing these things. Making predictions that shock and stir up interest in the calamatic. I know it must be hard for somebody in a country that suffers from this kind of disaster to ignore this but its the thing to do. Here in Trinidad there is a popular and well publicized woman who makes up these things for years now. Its a money making thing a lot of the time. Besides, how on earth can somebody tell where there's going to be an earthquake before it happens. Even the scientists can't do that !

Yup, I received that email last week. Pretty scary! The prediction says thousands will die. And they advise us not to go to work on that day. So let us pray that that won't happen. Prayers and faith in God will save us.

disasters come and go in our country. That is why the NDCC meets every now and then and i had witnessed how they travel all over the country to prepare for whatever that could come. The government works and I guess, we should also may it be illnesses, school failure, floods, earthquakes, typhoons, etc
