Cellphone, do you think it's a waste of money?

Now a days there's a lot of different kind of Cellphones. There are CP that do not have much features on it and there are also too many features on it or you can say it is loaded. I've known some that owned a CP with too much features on it and pretty much sure it is expensive, but they use only some features of their CP I should say maybe using 10% only everyday and they use other features of the CP maybe once in a month, just an example. Just wandering if they use only about 10% of the features of their CP everyday, why not buy only the cheapest one in which they can use what they need everyday from their CP and with this, they can save a little. What do you think, is it a waste of money buying an expensive CP that you use some features only? Just asking to know your thoughts. Have a nice day!

In my opinion it depends on several factors. User friendly phone vs non-user friendly phone for one - just because it has the basic features you want doesn't mean that they will be streamlined and easy to use the way you want to use them. Also, many phones can now be acquired free or almost free with special deals from carriers, or you can get a good deal to upgrade if you upgrade when you are eligible for the best deal. Also, consider the length of time you usually own a particular phone. If you tend to replace your phone often, then it wouldn't matter if you just kept purchasing inexpensive phones, if you tend to keep a phone forever, then it's the same value to purchase something nicer and more expensive because that's a one time expenditure of say $200 vs 6 expenditures of $40 over 2 years (an example). Personally for me, I was choosy about what I picked. I wanted a full qwerty keyboard but something either that you slide open or flip open, not like a blackberry. Bluetooth capable, internet access, camera, music, instant messenger, and at least partially customizable. I don't really care for the games and I don't use the email very often but the features I care about are easy to use so it's worth the value to me.

Oh. One thing I wish I had on my phone was gps navigation but I don't think my phone make/model supports something like that, or else it's an extra pay feature I'd have to add on to my plan.

No I would not generally think Cellphone is a waste of money. If the cellphone is a gadget you use for your business, it is definitely an asset. The same goes with Features loaded cellphones. If you need those features on your everyday or business needs, it serves its purpose. Still the main purpose is to talk or txt, so other added features "could be" a waste if you don't really need it. Still a lot of people are fond of these added features. So what do I do to take advantage of the situation? I would use a basic phone. I never buy expensive phone FROM my major income. I would buy expensive phones from the profits of my extra's. But I would take very good care of it, why? Because my only purpose is to have it then when I get bored, I would sell it to those who wants to have it. Then I'll go back to my old celphone. I'll have back some of my money, and had the experience of having a cool cellphone. Once a new model is out, I would do the same again. Buy a cool cp, use it to satisfy myself, then sell it when I get bored. Maybe when I finally see a cellphone that would really serves all the purpuse I need, then I would buy it for myself to keep.

I just have a basic model - all I need from a phone is to make/receive calls/texts. the one I have has a few basic games - which I never play because the screen on a mobile is too small for me to see whats going on. I use it to keep in touch with my sons, to let people know I'm ok if I'm delayed and if I need emergency services or motor recovery. To some people its an important status thing to have the latest technology whether they use it or not. My criteria are ' Does it do what I need? and Can I afford it?'

i only spent a couple hundred at most for a cell. i don't use everything on it but it doesn't matter. it is a great investment to live in today's world. and i don't know how people live without one. in movies when they get in a tight spot i keep thinking why don't they use their cell? those movies were made before cells were out. they make good use of cells in movies now and tv shows because it reflects real life.

I don't think its a waste of money. xD Well for me, I don't go too much for those 'mega-hypered-featured' cellphones. Lol. I just go for a cellphone with four features: call, text, camera, radio. Basically I have a cellphone like that but I would want to upgrade it a little. :P I'm contented with a cellphone that would provide me that. xD

i think these days it is more of a show off to have a CP with features loaded. if you use them, its fine but otherwise i see no point in wasting money on loaded cell phones. you should use your CP features if you buying it.
